I say this as ebay themselves think it perfectly fair and reasonable to ask for immediate payment on buy it now items, hence the little tick box under payment options that states "require imediate payment when buyer uses buy it now" ......stupid ebay eh
That's the exact point some of us are trying to make though. BIN with immediate payment means a bidder can't actually buy the item unless they pay, that is an ebay facility (and a useful one). Therefore stating on that auction that 'immediate payment must be made' can be enforced.
If you put payment must be made in 48 hours on a normal auction the question remains what happens then if buyer doesn't pay? If the answer is 'nothing happens' then why put that term in at all? Just changing it to 'payment will be required within 4 days' could have repercussions on a buyer as an NPB can be started then, so if people want fast payment on an auction why not just change from 48 hours to 4 days as it shows they understand how ebay works.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I haven't read all of this thread as to be honest it all seemed to be getting a bit handbags at dawn after half way down page 2 but i'm supprised to hear people saying it "makes you look stupid" or "like you don't know what you are doing on ebay" for stating that you would prefere payment in 48 hours....

all the op did was get a bit pushy which could backfire in the old dsr's but we live and learn.
i have to say though i am constantly amazed at how quickly some "buyers" who buy items but then neither pay or make any form of contact suddenly remember how to send emails once a dispute is opened.......maybe i'm just old and cynical though....:(
Thanks. I really dont think what I done was such a big deal its not like I have harrassed the buyer and sent horrible messages! The whole point was to offer a quick service for them, I'm not bothered about the money I make on Ebay to be honest.
As for your last paragraph, this is exactly what happened in my case - no contact for 6 days, I opened a dispute and then BANG, I got a message and payment instantly! It is a bit strange....0 -
Hi everyone, I sold something on ebay on the 15th Feb and in my listing I stated that payment should be made within 48 hours. I never recieved a payment by 18th so I messaged the buyer and said that I was making a trip to the Post Office and that a payment would be apreciated. No response so I sent another message on 19th in the evening saying the same thing. No response. So, I opened a payment dispute on the 20th.
Then I get this awful message in my inbox saying I was out of order and that I shouldnt of reported her to ebay and she had made the payment now. I just replied saying that I messaged her a few times but had no reply so assumed she was a non-payer and that I wanted to make one trip to the posty instead of two.
Now I am worried that she will leave me negative feedback! What would you have done?
Thanks
Hi, You were in the right. If the buyer leaves negative feedback what can she say? You laid out your terms of payment and she ignored it so thats her problem. Any way you can then leave her negative feedback too. I have been on both sides of a sale like this wherethe woman claims she didnt receive her item and I had to repay £105 pounds even though I had proof of postage. Good luck anyway.:T0 -
Ok, two major problems with your post.DOBBLEBEAR wrote: »Hi, You were in the right. If the buyer leaves negative feedback what can she say? Firstly sellers can't leave anything other than a positive so that's out. Secondly and much more importantly if you are still selling on ebay, proof of postage is not the same as proof of delivery.
For paypal purposes items muct be tracked to delivery and an online confirmation of receipt available. failure to do that is an automatic win for the buyer, that is a fundemental rule and something I cannot stress hard enough for all sellers. Obviously many people choose not to bother with tracking for items under £39 and instead cover themselves against loss in the post by keeping a 'free' certificate of postage, but standard RM insurance only cover £39 so after that it is special delivery all the way.
Please hang about on here for a while, this stuff is too important not to know and sellers have a duty to protect themselves. If the buyer wants their item quickly then surely they will pay straight away. If it's not that urgent for whatever reason then they might not. Within the time frame for paying then surely this is their choice?0 -

because it is a request not a threat, there doesn't have to be negative consequence for not adhering to it.0 -
You should always give your customers the benefit of the doubt. I had a customer who did not pay for a week I did not bother them and after a week they emailed apologising as they forgot about the transaction and left me great feedback after. If the customer does not pay you will get your fees back yes it will be a hassle relisting but thats business for you nothing is easy its hard work. Always keep the customer happy
