Am I out of order?

I have several items listed this week that a friend has asked me if I want to sell, however if they don't go this week she wants them back for a sale on Saturday morning.
It's not normally something I would do but I have made it clear in my listing that payment must be made before 10am Saturday morning or the items won't be available. From reading these posts I have wasted my time!!!
I wouldn't do it again, if any items do sell but are not paid for by 10am Sat I am going to pay my friend for and keep them, if the buyers don't pay then I will lose out unless they sell again when I relist them.
I must remember eBay is all about the buyers.
This is just a nightmare waiting to happen. Never sell for anyone else it always ends in disaster. Frequently the people doing a favour for their friends/relatives end up either out of pocket and with frozen paypal accouts. Its really not worth the hassle.0 -
I'm sorry if you thought some of the advice was harsh, but from an interested point of view how were you intending to enforce your 'payment within 48 hours' statement?
The reason i ask is that I do accept that people don't always understand the rules, but if they don't then they must have a back up plan to enforce their own rules . You completely innocently stated payment within 48 hours , so what were you going to do if they paid after that?
Yes your right, I suppose I didn't know that they had 4 days to pay. The main reason why I say payment within 48 hours is basically to keep everything organised and send off quickly. Buyers are quick to moan when items are delayed by a few days.

Thanks for your input. Do you see my point of view though?
Actually I think I am a a bit too immersed in ebay and have been selling for too long as I cannot see your point of view. Selling is a minefield now, many of us, me included, spend our ebay time working out how to avoid the bad buyers, how to avoid poor stars and how to keep our feedback and seller standing perfect.
I work strange hours for more than one employer and if i take a long contract then I often stay in hotels rather than travel home each day. I would be foolish to sell during those times, so I don't. I sell when I know I am in a position to post out within the 2 working days that my auction terms state (I usually ship next day but I allow an extra day for emergencies as I have children). I sometimes get a last minute contract and in the back of my mind is all sorts of emergency back up plans for getting my stuff out and posted, the moment I let that slip I risk poor stars and once my stars and expanded seller dashboard get hit I might as well give up.
I know it hasn't been mentioned on thisi thread at all but the one thing I really hate to see on an auction is 'pay in 48 hours as I'm going on holiday and if you haven't paid then you will have to wait two weeks until I get home again'. I'm sure that doesn't affect buyers who would probably avoid that seller anyway but I worry about the seller themselves, he might as well close his ebay account and give up if he fails to understanding the basic selling principles like that. The only person who will suffer is the selelr, buyer pays after 50 hours, a week later opens a paypal dispute, 10 days after that gets a full refund for item not received, leaves a neg and poor stars for the seller, and there is ntothing at all seller can do about it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I've been using eBay for years, but I bid and won something a couple of weeks ago.
I'd thrown a bid in when it had 6 days on it, never imagining I'd win it for that price.
Never checked my eBay and never checked my emails for a couple of days, then I received a payment reminder from the seller.
I just responded to that, with the payment, and said that I had forgotten all about bidding on it.
Some people aren't sitting at the PC 24/7 with eBay and their email open you know.
Neither am I but thanks for your input.0 -
I ask for payment within 72 hours and dont see a problem with it. I then say I will post within 72 hours also so its fair both ways. I dont want to be waiting days on end for someone to pay same as they dont want to be waiting days on end for me to send it.
I would have done what you did, even if others are slating you for it. I usually allow a week before opening a dispute. The person should have been so angry in their email you too, they could have simply apologised said they have paid and ask you to close it. Simple!0 -

No, not really, going to the PO is a pre requisite of Ebay. Rather than try to enforce payment timescales you would be better to detail days on which you will/will not post.
As a buyer I always pay immediately, but do understand that others may not do so for varied, but good ( to them) reasons and I make allowances.
You see many ridiculous caveats in listings, which frankly, show the seller to be a bit silly and uninformed. Today I was about to bid on an item which stated "I will not refund if this item gets lost in the post":rotfl:oh yes, you will......0 -
I must be very lenient then, as I ask "payment within 7 days please, if that is going to be a problem, please contact me, I don't bite!

The question is what will you do if they don't post pay within 3 days? Ahhh Nothing as there is nothing you can do untill end of day 4. All it does putting that in your auction is make you look a bit clueless and more likely to get bad feedack0 -

Thanks, I think some people are just trying to make me feel stupid, that I certainly am not! Some have said that when they see these requests on an item they choose not to bid - well my buyer didnt have to bid on my item, she did, and therefore it shows she was agreeing to what was in my listing. I really dont see what I have done wrong! Anyway, I think I am going to draw a line under this now. Thanks for your reply and thanks to everyone else for your input.0
