It really doesn't matter what a group of us say here. You can state whatever you like in your auctions. You can ask for only meercats to bid on your auction if you wish. Like other things written in auctions that would be unenforcable.

What matters is what your customers think. Opening yourself up to poor feedback and bad DSRs your just going to get worse prices and could eventually drive your DSRs down to suspension and lower searches.

If you want good prices why would you put this in Jeopardy? As others have discovered a few bad DSR scores can start putting your selling in danger

You have misunderstood what the thread is concerned about, you are within the rules asking for payment is 7 days is perfectly acceptable and you don't look daft at all as buyers know you can actually open an NPB on them within that time frame. I would have no hesitation at all in buying from you, you understand the process and are working correctly within it.

It is the sellers that state payment in say 48 hours when there is nothing at all they can do to enforce that rule. I still do not understand why those sellers say that, what exactly are they going to do if buyer doesn't pay in 48 hous? As they can't insist on payment in 48 hours there is no point at all in putting it in their auctions.

I havent misunderstood I DO state 'please forward payment with 72 hours' on my listings, but I DONT say I will open a NPB after 72 hours as evidently I cant. I rarely have a non payer and like someone else has said once I contact them on day 4 they are usually very apologetic, or just pay straight away! Im a private seller so to have a couple of people out of my sales pay a few days late is no biggy for me. I think the pay with 72 hours prompts people as otherwise I could be waiting for days on end for a payment. Its easy to see by this thread that alot of people dont know that after four days a NPB can be opened so its fair to presume alot of buyers wont know this either.

I guess maybe it could be worded better as 'Could you please send payment within 48 hours to ensure prompt dispatch.' Either way as long as you adhere to ebays rules (ie not cancel transaction if they dont pay after 48 hours, or refuse to send item etc) then theres no problem.

well shes obviously doing fine so far as am I. Maybe if I was a business I would think differently but Im a private seller and so what if one person gets miffed because I want a prompt payment in return for a prompt dispatch. Ill take the hits in stars and feedback no big deal for me! Its a few extra quid throughout the year not my livelihood. And so far with 300 feedback Im not had one complaint so Ill carry on as I am.
  • Aaaand if you get more than two of those you'll prolly be banned from ebay so you can't sell at all.
Undergrad law student. Take my advice with a pinch of salt! :rotfl:
  • erm ............... ??? she clearly isnt doing fine as she is or she wouldnt come here and ask for advice AFTER A COMPLAINT !!!!

The annoying thing is buyers will meet the casual "im only selling to get a few extra quid so doesnt matter if I do as i please " and be treated badly by them and the 'high and mighty' dedicated sellers on this board who bust an !!! to please people will get screwed over by the disgruntled buyer.

Its an insult to people who need to sell to make a living to take such a lax approach to it.

Just because you haven't had one complaint doesn't mean you won't. Also the people you are putting off with that statement and this other statement in your listings
I always obtain proof of postage and therefore cannot be held responsible for anything lost or damaged in the post
. (Which actually you are!). Means you more than likely getting a lot lower prices than you could.

I see things like that and the 72 hours thing immediatly I think clueless seller and I would normally avoid.

(excuse the change of fonts something strange happened)
  • I dont make the 'proof of postage' claim, that I do find silly.

If someone does have a problem with paying within 72 hours and is pathetic and sad enough to send me a message complaining about it I would simply tell them I am sorry they feel this way and therefore do not bid on my item. If it was a buyer who had messaged me to say that they would struggle to, as for example they dont get paid till day 4 (or 5 or 6 etc), then I would of course say that it wasnt a problem and it was merely a prompt to ensure payments are recieved and then there is no need to go the NPB route and they can of course pay on day 4 (or 5 or 6 etc) when they have the funds.

Asking a buyer to pay promptly is hardly giving them a bad service and leaving them disgruntled. They still get their item, its still as described, its still in the condition they expected and they havent recieved a NPB without any warning from a experienced seller whom is selling for their livelihood and therefore couldnt give a damn what it going on in the buyers life as long as they pay by day 4.

Alas you are obviously all going to keep going on and on about this and never accept someone elses point of view so Ill levae it at that. Enjoy.

You know, when everyone else tells you that you may not be right, sometimes it is wise to take your own advice;)
  • personally i don't see anything wrong with requesting payment within 48 hours as long as you don't put any nonsense about taking any actions which are not available to you.

I haven't read all of this thread as to be honest it all seemed to be getting a bit handbags at dawn after half way down page 2 but i'm supprised to hear people saying it "makes you look stupid" or "like you don't know what you are doing on ebay" for stating that you would prefere payment in 48 hours....

I say this as ebay themselves think it perfectly fair and reasonable to ask for immediate payment on buy it now items, hence the little tick box under payment options that states "require imediate payment when buyer uses buy it now" ......stupid ebay eh :p

all the op did was get a bit pushy which could backfire in the old dsr's but we live and learn.

i have to say though i am constantly amazed at how quickly some "buyers" who buy items but then neither pay or make any form of contact suddenly remember how to send emails once a dispute is opened.......maybe i'm just old and cynical though....:(
