Am I out of order?

I don't think your out of order. I always pay immediately upon winning an item and if I can't pay I'll at the very least send an email to keep the seller updated. 48 is quite reasonable. OK it may put off some people but assuming its a paypal only item, why can't payment be made promptly. Surely if somebody buys something, they want it ASAP so you explaining that your off to the post office is a good thing!
I do understand what the other posters are saying and they understand the rules of ebay far better than I, which is why I am finding myself more and more reluctant to use it! So many horror stories!0 -
Sorry Poet123, I did ask your opinion but I suppose you are the type of person who cant see things from others point of view. I have small babies and like to be in order. Maybe I should just say 'pay whenever you want - and I'll send whenever I can be bothered'. I did request payment within 48 hours on my listing, if she didnt want/couldn't do that then she shouldn't have bid.
You, on the other hand see the POV of your buyer I suppose?
You have small children, imagine your buyer has too, maybe a sick small child, maybe a sick elderly mother, maybe she works part time and only has the net in work, maybe works away from home, maybe, maybe ,maybe. You see your own mittigating circumstances but not those of your buyer and yet you lambast others for pointing that out to you.
As others have said, do not put unrealistic caveats in your listings and be a reasonable seller, you will be surprised how reasonable the buyers you attract will be;)0 -

I have several items listed this week that a friend has asked me if I want to sell, however if they don't go this week she wants them back for a sale on Saturday morning.
It's not normally something I would do but I have made it clear in my listing that payment must be made before 10am Saturday morning or the items won't be available. From reading these posts I have wasted my time!!!
I wouldn't do it again, if any items do sell but are not paid for by 10am Sat I am going to pay my friend for and keep them, if the buyers don't pay then I will lose out unless they sell again when I relist them.
I must remember eBay is all about the buyers.Louise0 -

I don't really follow you here. Why would your friend want something back to resell if you already have a buyer for it? never ever sell for other people, they don't stay your frineds for long after that especially if they want you to risk your ebay account for refusing to sell after a successful winning bid.
You cannot start an nPB on your buyer until day 4 and you cannot close it for another 4 days after that. So you are leaving yourself open to some serious issues here, and with any daft terms in your auctions you will have all the strange bidders making a beeline for you.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Firstly you can't insist on payment within 48 hours and having un necessary statements in your auctions does appear to attract some odd buyers. It probably put off the serious bidders.
The second I see a statement like this in a listing that I am interested in I just leave it.
I really hate it when people think they can go against Ebay's rules of how long I have to pay.
It's as bad as 'once I have posted the item it is no longer my responsibility but I will be happy to send you proof of postage' :rotfl:
oh, I always pay on the day I win the auction because that's what I like when I sell (but I don't expect it)....but I still wouldn't have even bid on your itemSometimes it's important to work for that pot of gold...But other times it's essential to take time off and to make sure that your most important decision in the day simply consists of choosing which color to slide down on the rainbow...0 -

Thanks, like you I always make instant payments and items I sell are PayPal only. I suppose it comes down to your manners really, so ebay rules and t&c's aside - it would have been nice for a polite message to keep me in the picture.
Thanks to everyone else for the comments, I apreciate others opinions but I dont think it is necessary to write it in a harsh way. I enjoy using ebay but I suppose I need to understand Ebay t&c's a bit more like those above.
Thanks again0 -
at the end of the day ebay allows buyers 4 days to pay.so setting unrealistic payment terms is fruitless.......yes most will pay within that time frame..but if they dont..theres is little you can do..you opened the dispute after day four..fair enough..I would have done too
..but I would not have contacted buyer again within those 4 days..its not the buyers problem that you wanted to post all your parcels at once.
I send an invoice after auction ends and a message usually saying that I will post x day after receiving cleared payment..then if nothing I wait until day 4, send a reminder email and another invoice..then open dispute on day 5 or thereafter if no response.
I did have an unpleasant experience with a non paying bidder a few weeks back who I allowed 10 days before opening dispute..he then threatened to and left me retaliatory neg feedback(my first neg ) and lots of threatening emails...subsequently he is now on my blocked list..but sadly cannot get the feedback removed.0 -

Thanks for your input. Do you see my point of view though?0 -
I've been using eBay for years, but I bid and won something a couple of weeks ago.
I'd thrown a bid in when it had 6 days on it, never imagining I'd win it for that price.
Never checked my eBay and never checked my emails for a couple of days, then I received a payment reminder from the seller.
I just responded to that, with the payment, and said that I had forgotten all about bidding on it.
Some people aren't sitting at the PC 24/7 with eBay and their email open you know.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -
I'm sorry if you thought some of the advice was harsh, but from an interested point of view how were you intending to enforce your 'payment within 48 hours' statement?
The reason i ask is that I do accept that people don't always understand the rules, but if they don't then they must have a back up plan to enforce their own rules . You completely innocently stated payment within 48 hours , so what were you going to do if they paid after that?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
