  • Have you looked / enquired at Bicester Country Club? It's a golf club / hotel place in Chesterton just outside of Bicester. I'm a member of the health club there and regularly see wedding go-ers leaving on a Sunday lunchtime when I arrive to go for my workout. I have no idea on price.

    Hi All,

    Been viewing a plenty!

Lains Barn - It was gorgeous I thought and great if you want to do your own thing 'food wise' but I thought it was a little pricey. Its approx 2.5k to hire the venue for the ceremony and reception (in low season) but on top of that you would have to hire the tables etc, linens would have to be self supplied or supplied by the caterer you get. Any decorations they have (like the sashes in the beams) are at a charge. So it all months up - but location wise it was lovely.

Donninton Valley - Ive stayed here before so knew it was nice. It was gorgeous and would be from 5.5k - 6.3k all in for everything (suite for bride/groom, evening reception buffet ceremony, champagne (cheaper if you want sparkling wine) also have a free kids room with a wii and soft furnishings. Beautifil grounds. Only downside is the room we would have hasnt got a lot of natural light and where you would have the ceremony you would be walking up the aisle to a wall, not to look over grounds etc like some of the others if you get what i mean?

Looking at Steventon House Hotel (so far the cheapest quote we have had) tonight. Hawkwell House & Coseners on saturday and Milton Hill House next week. Got a couple more shortlisted but then hopefully we can try and make a decision.

Off to the national wedding show next weekend - anyone been to one of those before? Its my first time...

    Hope this helps?

P.S I looked at Tythe Barn too - good job I was sitting down for the prices!!

  • I'm getting married in Lains Barn in October this year and it's not costing me that much to hire it - I am getting married on a Sunday though. I think it was 1.5k for hire including the ceremony fee.

Really? Thats interesting as I was told it was £1750 for hire of barm in low season sept-end April and then the fee to have ceremony and with VAT bought it to £2.5k.

Hope They were not trying it on??

Out of interest have you got any catering quotes? we have no idea at the cost of hiring one? x

  • They seemed honest and consistent with their prices. I think they do charge a lot more on Saturdays. It was about £1000 for the hire on a Sunday so could well be 1750 on a Saturday. Then £300 for the ceremony fee. Plus VAT on everything of course. My information pack is at home so can't remember exactly. You just ring them and ask again....

We're having a hog roast in the evening. I tried to get a couple of quotes from caterers to do an afternoon tea but they never got back to me - very rude - so we're probably just going to do the afternoon stuff ourselves.

Sorry Primmer didn't mean to hijack your thread.

Have you looked at Oxford 4 pillars? or any of the local golf clubs to you?

I found golf clubs to be hidden gems of the wedding world!!

I looked at Oxford 4 Pillars and it was lovely, the only downside for me was the room where you got married wasn't that nice... But you could get married on their own boat if there is only a few people (approx 20!) This was about 3/4 years ago though so my info may be out of date!

I went to the wedding show in Birmingham... It was OK, I found that the suppliers were all from the area and it was a little too far away for me. The local wedding shows are very good and useful, I got 20% off my wedding rings and 10% off my bridesmaids presents for arranging a meeting with her on the day and deciding to buy!

I have a friend who owns a catering company in Fritwell, near Bicester. There hog roasts are fab but don't know about prices. If you want more info let me know! Just to let you know I don't think I could get any discount!!

  • It might be too far from you, but Shiplake College near Henley is really good. They have in-house caterers and will provide absolutely anything you want. It's a beautiful venue and reckon you could do it for around £5000?
