We are getting married in the baptist church (a month before you!) and I have looked at Segais for hair and make up, but would prefer a recommendation really. Is your florist local to Berkshire or Didcot?0

I live in Abingdon and am getting married at Lains Barn. I've only recently moved to the area so haven't tried anywhere out just for a normal haircut yet - October seems to be coming up fast!0

Kezz - Oohhhh less than 9 months for you then! I really reccomend Bladez, Ive been going there for 10 years, they did my mums wedding hair too. I would reccomend Vicky or Jess for hair if you do go in, they do loads of weddings too so are experienced. The florist ive gone with is in Berkshire but had quotes from all over, nearby I really rate Freeman Flowers. Had a bad experience with Ann Lynn Davey and id avoid Lilys if I were you, they dont have any experience of weddings really. Have you approached any yet?
Sapphire - We looked at lains barn! Loved it, we are getting married nearer mt dad now though (in berks) I really rate Bladez, not had my hair done in Abingdon before so cant really reccomend any. October?? Blimey not long! xx:heart2: Got Married on 30/4/11 :heart2:

my sister got married there last year - it was fab! A lunchtime wedding (in Didcot registry office - much cheaper) then back for drinks/photos in the Italian garden - lovely. Food wise the main meal was a barbeque and hog roast - food served outside but we could eat inside or out - the function room was set up well with cutlery glasses etc - and that was where the cake cutting took place.
Our kid (northern speak for younger sibling) was well chuffed with the day - the staff were very helpful - to the point of letting bride and groom install a video booth for guests to leave their comments whilst sat on a motorbike.
Evening food catered to the crowd (a fair few bikers were present ) - lots of sandwiches, includind bacon. and plenty of chips.
The grounds contained lots of games such as Jenga/draughts etc to keep people amused......
My sis added to the uniqueness of the occasion by having both a bouncy castle and a bucking bronco to keep people entertained - worked very well.
My only quibble would be that the annexe did seem to have a few spiders around but all in all it was a very nice place to be.
Sis didn't tell me what it cost - but she was very happy with it!:jFlylady and proud of it:j0 -
Thanks Mrs Moore to be, I will approach Bladez for some more info about my hair!
I have heard bad recommendations about Ann Lynn Davey and wasn't too keen on Lily either since they haven't been going long and didn't really like them when I popped in. I have an appointment with Freeman's flowers next week, the lady was really nice on the phone.
Lains Bain was far to expensive for us, but it is beautiful, our reception will be in a big hall locally which has got wooden beams etc so it will definitely have a barn type feel to it.
Milton Hill is where I organise my conferences so I know it well and would recommend it for weddings, but because I use it for work a lot I just couldn't have my wedding there!
How exciting!!0 -
Kezz - They are lovely in freeman flowers - they are the only place that sat me down with a cuppa and made me feel at ease! Its only the fact that we changed locations that I didnt go with them. Ann Lynn Davely - the girl I saw was SO rude!
Lains barn was too pricey for us too but lush - are you having yours at the con club by any chance??
Milton hill is lovely - it was a shame we couldnt ahve it there in the end - families grrr!
Have you got your dress yet? xx:heart2: Got Married on 30/4/11 :heart2:

Out of interest, how much did Lains Barn quote you? I gather prices were increased at Easter when it got taken over by new people but we got in before then so got the old prices.0

Hi Sapphire
I saw them in Feb and they quoted 2.5k for hire of venue but then all linen tables, chairs etc would be on top of that and we would then have the catering cost on top too. It may not be much for some budgets but we thought it was a tad pricey. Had it included table and chairs too then maybe we would have thought more. As it happens we ended up Berkshire way anyway. x:heart2: Got Married on 30/4/11 :heart2:
