  • Mossymoss - have you got wooden or laminate floors? If so, it may be time to get carpets or at least rugs. They absorb so much noise. I could never hear my neighbours until they put in laminate floors. Now I can hear every step they make. It's incredibly irritating and really puts me on edge.

sagalout is correct - Environment Health are the ones to contact. but, if you are in social housing then they often have a team to help - if its a private property then EH.
  • Poor you

Best thing is not to confront anyone yourself
Always let the officials deal with it
That way it can't escalate in your direction

    Good luck
Can I just comment on this. I used to go out on a Saturday night and therefore played music had a drink before I went out (i went straight to club as can not afford anything else) I am friendly with my neighbors and never had any problems but suddenly for 2 weeks in a row I had police at my door at 11pm saying there had been a complaint. I was shocked as never realized I had annoyed anybody. Chapping everybody's door I finally found out my new neighbors worked early on a sunday and I was disturbing them.

So we came to a comprise and I now turn my music off at 10:30pm. This was done as adults talking to each other and not involving the police.

I have to admit Im not in talking terms now with them as Im upset they had to call the police before even making a effort to approach me.

I know this post is going be a cause of arguments as there is people out there who think Im a nuisance. Fine, you are entitled to all your own opinions. But Im entitled to a life, If you live in a flat you have to accept your neighbors around you.

Ps i was always out before 12, I never played music later and have neighbors who have parties that go on all night.

OP, why didn't you just go round and knock on the door, and ask them to turn it down?

Most people have no idea their music is too loud until someone tells them!
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

just call enviromental health, you need not be named so no more strain between you both.

Yeah, bet they wont have a clue who it is! :p

Chatting is always best.. as soon as its "official" you'll be lucky to ever speak to them again and have the added hassle if you ever want to sell your house..(assuming you own)..

would you buy a place with a neighbour dispute over hurrendous noise? Not disclosing it isnt really a sensible option once you have brought the authorities in.

like my sons former neighbours. they moved into a terraced house with 4month old twins
from the start - neighbours would arrive home from pub and put music on - until 3 or 4 in morning, son asks them to turn it down, they turn it up.
son has arrived at my house with partner and kids at 3 or 4 in morning just wanting sleep.
suggest talking to neighbour - he got told eff off its their house if they want to party they will.
ok - its social housing - my son spoke them and got nowwhere!! I got involved and they actually monitored the noise and guess what - the neighbour was visitited - wasnt in
hmmmm - another visit with me to the housing - a reminder to them of their obligations and i took along a voice recorder and taped the interview.#
it took another two months for them to decide to take out an asbo - and at the court date - the neighbour decided not to attend! the housing people wanted to drop it - on my advice my son decided to petition the court to hear it . and he got the asbo.
which the neighbour ignored - my son got relocated (to where he would have preferred anyway) and the previous neighbour is still annoying everone.
perserverance is the key, you have the right to peace in your own home.
  • Get in touch with your council - We had neighbours from hell and they were prosecuted by the council - private house - they moved 2 months later.
If they were council tenants they could have been evicted.

I HAVE LAMINATE FLOORING DOWNSTAIRS CARPETS UP, THEY HAVE CARPETS THROUGHOUT.

I DO GENERALLY GET ON WELL WITH THEM..WHEN I SEE THEM THAT IS, I DONT SEE THEM THAT OFTEN AS I STAY AT BF EVERY OTHER DAY.
WHEN I HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE DOG BARKING AND HOWLING
ALL THE TIME HE KNEW IT WAS GOING ON AS HE TOLD ME HE WAS AVOIDING ME TILL I COLLARED HIM!! I'M GLAD TO SAY THE DOG SITUATION HAS NOW STOPPED. THEY REALLY ARE LIKE A PAIR OF KIDS EVEN THOUGH HE IS IN HIS 40'S AND HER MID 20'S ALWAYS SCREAMING AND SHOUTING AND MESSING AROUND WITH THE DOG WINDING HIM UP SO HE BARKS. i TRY AND KEEP MY DOG AND KIDS QUIET WHEN I'M IN ALTHOUGH SOMETIMES I DO THINK 'WHY SHOULD I'!!!
WE BOTH OWN OUR OWN HOMES AND IF I REPORTED THEM THEN THEY WOULD KNOW IT WAS ME. I STILL HAVENT MANAGED TO HAVE WORDS WITH THEM AS I HAVENT SEEN THEM BUT I WILL MENTION IT WHEN I DO

THANKS AGAIN FOR ALL THE REPLIES
