Noisy neighbours..how late is too late

Options
hi guys sorry if its in the wrond place i'm just getting slightly peed off with my neighbours. Firstly i will point out that i only spend every other friday at mine (this being one of them as i have my children) My neighbours have been playing music for the pas few hours at full whack. My kids had to turn the tv up in their room to hear it and i could still hear the neighbours music over that, Its various music with various bass Boom Boom Booms but its starting to get slightly annoying now even more as their very large dog is now 'singing along' to leona lewis full blast. i've tried ringing and sending a nice text requesting them to turn it down but they've changed their numbers,

At what time is too late to carry on playing pumping bass music? they know i've got my kids this friday as they saw me come in an i thought they may have turned it down about half 11 or so. my kids 9 and 8 cant get to sleep:mad:

Unless it's a party that's been planned and you had been "warned" about it (or invited to it :T), I would say midnight is a reasonable time for them to turn down the volume even at the weekend.

There were (may still be) greater restrictions on noise and how a council has to deal with it when it is between 11 pm to 7 am.
You would need to contact your local council, their website should have details of their procedure.

    This is oxfords

thanks for your replies, they hardly ever speak as i dont see them that often anyway only a quick hi across the drive ways every now and again. they never pre inform me when the have a party or get together but to be fair they arent 100% sure when i'm in. I did have bit of trouble with them a few months ago as their dog started barking every single time they went out and it went on for ages and in the end we came to a compromise of me textin themm when i was gonna be in and them textin me etc. Like i said they have since both changed their numbers. I was getting to the point of going round and knocking on but to be honest i dont think the would've heard so was gonna post a note through for when they take a toilet stop!!

i'm glad to say its now stopped however i will just mention it when i next see them

I would say anything after 9 is too late unless they have previously warned you. Have a word and see what they say, they may be idiots who honestly don't realise that your children need to go to bed but, if they do it regularly I would report them to environmental health.

Glad it has stopped, I would advise against a note, much better to mention it as you are going to do.

I had a neighbour like that some years ago, would play loud music in flats where I lived from 11pm - 5am, most nights so we could not sleep. In the end I went to a solicitor but before it went any further "someone" broke into their flat and stole their Hi-Fi. They moved out after that but to this day I wake in a cold sweat genuinely frightened and shaking if I hear music in the night.
I believe the correct procedure is to 1) keep a diary listing times of the disturbance and 2) contact your council environmental health.
It shouldnt be like that, should it? You have my sympathy - hope the word works for you.

I agree, a gentle comment might get better results. Good luck, noise can be very "abusive" at times. (not sure if this sounds right, but I know what I mean !)

when we first moved to this house we had neighbours who would have partys at the weekend, my mum solved the problem of getting up early on a sunday morning and hoovering the whole house
after about 2 weeks of doing this the noise stopped
