  • Poor you

Best thing is not to confront anyone yourself
Always let the officials deal with it
That way it can't escalate in your direction

    Good luck

  • I really feel for you and I bet its a difficult situation. Im at the opposite end of the situation myself so to speak. My neighbour keeps complaining to environmental health about my walking up and down stairs and closing my front door too loudly (clearly things outside my control) she is slightly batting but i'm at a loss as to what to do? She used to complain about the noise of my dryer during the day so we have stopped using this completely (which is slightly inconvenient with 2 young children) Any ideas?

You should not be restricted from using your dryer in the day thats crazy
How about standing it on something sound absorbing ? to meet her half way
Those polystyrene trays that washing machines arrives in are great and don't interfere with the venting of the dryer

Thank you missymugwump. We have tried to compromise but she then comes back with other complaints. Like I say she complained about the dryer until we stopped using it and is now complaining about our using the stairs and closing doors too loudly, it seems that nothing will be good enough. She does not make complaints about the usual noisy neighbours things like music or loud tv etc (because we never play loud music or have tv on loud) just sounds that we have to make as part of everyday life. We recieved a letter from environmental health yesterday about the stairs, banging doors and dryer (even though we have not used this in 18 months now!!)
  • Have you phoned the person dealing with it ?
Maybe a chat would help clarify it from your point

Id contact the council and report them, keep a diary on how long it lasts for
  • My in-laws had noisy neighbour problems and Environmental Health told them to keep a diary. One day they'd been playing their music loudly all day for hours so in-laws called emergency EH number and a Local Authority Officer came straight out.

Sat in the front room he said the racket was unacceptable, luckily he was able to witness it first hand. He got a noise abatement injunction against each individual in the house (2 adults and 4 adult offspring) so NONE of them could play loudly.

In-laws are supposed to phone Police if/when it happens and they'll come round to sort it out, thankfully this hasn't been necessary - problem solved with the injunction.

MossyMoss - if I were you, I'd invite EH Officer round to monitor the noise being complained about from inside YOUR house. That way they can say whether it is indeed above an unacceptable level.
