  • You haven't witnessed great radio until you've been in round Ballymena at Xmas and checked out radio cracker. Boyso its a quer job hi

Castle FM (?) in carrick is ummm interesting when it's broadcasting. During a phone in competition (might have been when they were using "who wants to be a millionaire" on the playstation 2) they appeared to be giving away random items of stationary off their desk as prizes. "Congratulations Ethel from Sunnylands you've won a pen and half a block of post it notes!" :T

Being from near that part of the country. Carrick FM when they do broadcast are really quite awful. If you want a real laugh look out for them (summer months) last summer they were broadcasting from one of the many vacant shops in the DeCourcy Centre. Lot of tubes. God help us all if that is a radio station for the peeps of Carrick. :rotfl::)

Sad, but possibly true...but here's the rub....they exist on a meagre budget and very little advertising and very keen amateur presenters, the kit they use tends to be "old hat", they try within the short period they broadcast to provide what people in the area might like to hear. Basically they do it because they're fans of LOCAL radio for LOCAL people, they try and cover their costs by whatever means possible and budgets are really tight....

unlike other "permanant" local radio licencees, who don't care what local people want, never seem to have worthwhile prizes on their shows, only exist to "fleece" the advertising community AND believe it or not "fix" their competitions...if anyone out there believes that "competition entries are entered into the computer and randomly selected to find the winner" is how they do it....sorry to burst your bubble....and like I said when they tell you they've had 100's of TXT entries to win a CD....unless the girls in the marketing dept sit all day texting...forget it....

Liz Kennedy on Radio Ulster - reads the papers after the news, can someone tell her to stop shouting, and stop getting more excited as she goes on, its like listening to that scene from When Harry Met Sally except she never gets to the end just keeps getting faster and faster lol

She's marginally less irritating than Kim Lenahan (sp?) though. The most annoying voice on radio. Why on earth Radio Ulster keep employing her I have no idea...

Kim Lenaghan has a really silly voice on radio. She sounds as if she stretches her mouth into a grotesquely wide smile and keeps it like that all the time while she's speaking. She seems quite a nice person (if a bit eccentric) though.
  • i love radio one, but i also have cool fm and citybeat on the car for when theres a cack song on radio one-sometimes these stations are good cos they'll play a random song that i've not heard in yonks, so thats good. can't abide hearing a northern ireland accent on radio though, they sound so awful imo-i can only handly colin murray(which is odd, as he's quite broad, but i find him really entertaining, so i think thats why he gets away with it). To me, northern ireland dj's try way too hard to be funny and entertaining, and its just so cringey to me. Plus, i find that they play the same songs over and over and over again, and i know this is what happens with radio, as they have a playlist for current songs etc, but they do the same with old songs too, and its so annoying. I think i've heard 'this charming man' by the Smiths every day this week on citybeat.

update on "local" radio 7 FM in Ballymena, yet another 2 local DJs have jumped ship (or were they pushed)...rumour mill says all local stations, 7Fm, 6Fm, 5Fm, and the Q stations will all be branded as the "Q" network...probably to try and shake off the rubbish image that 5,6,and 7 have made for themselves...as for "local" radio that they promised they would deliver when they applied to OFCOM for their licences...looks like they will network most broadcasts which means ...no local input...and whats worse...OFCOM, the regulatory body will let them do it.
