I remember reading a discussion about the groboxes before and the conclusion was that the vegetables wouldn't be spaced accurately. Tomatoes need a lot of space and the other vegetables have different spacing. If you've planted already just wait and see what comes up. If you can rescue the seeds and put them at the right spacing you'll have a better crop.

    Welcome :)

Ah :o Oh well it will be a case of wait and see then :rotfl:
It does say that when things start to grow they need to be thinned out so was kind of expecting to have to do that anyway. Will just keep my fingers crossed.
It was a gift at xmas time and seems to do right through the season with all kinds of veg - some of which i like and others i dont..........
Its trial and error methinks :D

Thanks for answering my question about my spuds turbo! thought I would join this thread properly...

Moved into our first house in December and I have been champing at the bit to grow veg, but the garden has lots of bushes and plants, so I decided not to dig anything up for beds this year, but see what grows and make a decision in the autumn. So, this year I will mostly be using containers!

potatoes: I have two morrison's buckets each with 1 sharpe's express, planted 2 weeks ago, and a potato bag planted yesterday with 3 roosters in. I'm planning a couple more buckets of the first earlies over the next couple of weeks and one more bag of the roosters.

Small carrots, looseleaf lettuce, rocket: also in buckets - they have just started appearing on the surface - think the cold weather last week slowed them a bit but we had no frost, phew.

Tumbling and alicante tomatoes, cayenne and sweet peppers: in the house on windowsills atm. Also sweet peas (looking a bit leggy but have pinched the tips out now) and runner beans (clearly sowed too early - they are already over a foot tall, ah well, will sow some more in a couple of weeks).

All these will be grown on in pots or growbags except for the runner beans and sweet peas, which I am planning to build a link-a-bord bed for at the back of the garden. I've bought a mini greenhouse from wilkos and a growbag greenhouse to go on the patio, so hopefully I'll be able to move things into there soon. Really hoping there's no more frost to come for London at least, my DH wants to reclaim the kitchen and spare bedrooms from the green stuff! Finally, I want to grow some strawberries!

I'm so excited that it's sunny and warm today, i can't wait to go home and see how my seedlings have grown!

    Room for one more?

OH and I are having our first stab at allotment growing. We have half a plot and are growing garlic, onions, shallots, potatoes, carrots, brussels, cabbage, tomatoes, and other stuff I can't remember.

Lots of pests we have been warned, as the allotments are out in the country-rabbits, moles, mice, deer, and lots of ants nests it seems.

Any tips on keeping the beasties out would be awesome!!

I try to be organic,. I have various evil ways of getting rid of slugs and snails.

If you buy a seed or plant that is certified organic, but the plants parents weren't organic, does that technically make the current plant unorganic?

Haven't a clue. By organic I mean personally, no chemical fertilisers or pesticides, the plants can be what they like!:o

Can anyone tell me which varieties of potatoes I should be planting now for first earlies? I have all my potatoes chitting ( porch has been potato bound for weeks now!). Unfortunately, while I labelled them as to which variety, I didn't keep the packs which stated if they are maincrop, earlies or whatever.
I have Pentland Javelin, Charlotte, Rooster, Pink Fir Apple, King Edward, Arran Pilot. Which do I need to get in now? I spent a lot of time digging drills in my lottie the other day.
Oh, and I bought a box of fish, blood and bone. Do I have to put this in the ground as I'm planting stuff? Sorry, I have no idea.
