I find it (more than) a bit discouraging that threads are being removed without explanation. First this one disappeared, now it is the newer one that has gone.

I no longer feel inclined to go to 'the trouble' of taking pictures of my own veg growing journey then uploading them to photobucket and then incorporating them into a post here, only to have the thread deleted and my effort wasted.

Hope the April thread re-appears soon! Such a shame for it to disappear, especially as there were probably outstanding questions on it that people are wanting answered!

Quick question for you all - when are you all planning on planting your tomato plants outside (if you don't have a greenhouse or similar)? Is now too early?

I think i would hold back a bit just yet as your area may still be prone to late frosts, as many are throughout the UK.

I was in Homebase yesterday and got 6 strawberry plants which were reduced and 7 tomato plants 2 of which were reduced. (I love a bargain!)

I'm planning on putting the tomatoes in the Morrisons flower buckets. Some of them could do with repotting now, should I put them straight into the flower buckets or just pot them on for now? If I put them in the buckets I'm going to have trouble keeping them indoors. They'll eventually go into my plastic greenhouse.

Should I be keeping the strawberries indoors? They seemed to be kept outdoors at Homebase, but then so did the toms!

Can you tell I'm new to this? :rotfl:

I hope we get the other thread back too. :( katholicos, it's such a shame you're being put off, I love to watch everyone's progress.

  • I leave mine out during the day and then take them in at night and it seems to be helping them take root. Also, keeps them safe from them darn midnight slugs.

Have new ones this year as well as last years which survived well through the winter with a decent clear poly bag over them :)

Well.... my fruit is planted..... wonder where the april thread went? Were we bad? LOL

I got a nice watering can yesterday in Asda which has helped with the dry weather. my plants seem grateful for it.

I haven't received my rocket garden yet so still waiting for them.... can't wait!

Hello I'm new to all this gardening and veg growing too.
Not being too ambitious, just growing some herbs on the window sill and some tomatoes, chilli's and strawberries.

One of the chillis plants (bought from B&Q) seems to have died already although the other one is still alive, probably more through luck than my green fingers!

I have 3 tomato plants (all bought from B&Q) in a large terracota pot in my conservatory. My plan is (at the suggestion of my auntie) to put these in a hanging basket outside. As advised to another poster by Katholicos I'll wait for a few more weeks before doing this in case there are any more frosts. My question is I am just watering them at the moment but did buy some feed from B&Q. When do you start feeding the plants? Should I already be doing this?
    Thanks.

I will happily join the campaign for a separate April (and May, June, July etc) thread...

Can someone contact a mod to get this thread locked and an April one started (would do myself but busy at work :( )
