  • The Wilko greenhouse threw a slight wobbly and I lost a tray full of pansy seedlings, but everything else is alright phew!!

Pond is leaking, tried repair tape then the neighbour knocked on as water was flowing through his garden :S new lining it is then!!

Ahhhh.... lemony fresh victory is mineee!!!
  • Pepper and tomato seeds need to be inside on a window sill. It's too cold outside unless you have a heated greenhouse.

oh, ok will move them then. Does it have to be a windowsill with full sun on them (am thinking of getting a windowsill tray with a lid from wilkos)?

What about my cucumbers? Do they need the windowsill too?!

    Thanks

Well my new greenhouse was delivered on friday as promised, and when i opened the box to read the instructions, i found they had sent a different make and model to the 1 ordered. I phoned them up on saturday morning to tell them of their mistake and was informed that the make/model they had delivered was identical to the 1 i had ordered. I have looked on the internet and found websites that sell both makes (halls ordered, vitavia delivered) and the 1 that has been delivered seems to be cheaper. The man on the phone has said he will get the manager to phone me tomorrow (tue), he couldn't understand why i wasn't happy........ i order a Halls greenhouse and all the paperwork and delivery note say i am getting a Halls, but what i actually get is a cheaper make and at no time have i been informed of this, even the delivery driver said 'i have your delivery of a halls greenhouse'........how hard is that to understand. I am so mad as the weather has been ok here over the weekend and we could've put the much needed greenhouse up, now all my plants will have to stay in the house a bit longer.

    Sorry about the rant.

On a brighter note, all my tomatoes have been potted on, carrots and spring onions seem to be doing alright, peppers need to be potted up as they are in seed trays but i have nowhere to put them yet. Peas in pots outside, and new ones just sprouting on the windowsill. Another tub of potatoes done, and the first tub earthed up.
Flower wise petunias just emerged through the compost, but no sign of life from the buzy lizzies yet.

Would like to try cucumbers are they easy to grow, and can they be grown in pots?

  • Thanks heynonnynonny thinking I might give this a go :)

Hope your pond isn't too terminal and easy to repair

Wooohoo one of my kitchen herbs are starting to sprout. I originally thought that my OH knocked the pot over as the compost was all puffed up but after a watering the shoots popped though. I think its one of the rockets. Yippee!!

Hello all please may i join aswell :j

I have a very small garden but plan to grow in pots/bags and in one of my 3 borders.

This weekend I have planted the first 2 types of potato (swift and charlotte) in bags on my patio and i have also planted my organic grobox. I was wondering if this is too early to have done this or if anyone has used these groboxes before. It was given as a pressie at Christmas time and the instructions said to plant immediately but with all the severe frost i held off and now dont know if it will be ok

Not sure if this is the exact one i got as mine doesnt specify summer or spring but the basics are the same.

I am super excited to be attempting to grow my own veg for the first time and any help or tips would be appreciated :T

I remember reading a discussion about the groboxes before and the conclusion was that the vegetables wouldn't be spaced accurately. Tomatoes need a lot of space and the other vegetables have different spacing. If you've planted already just wait and see what comes up. If you can rescue the seeds and put them at the right spacing you'll have a better crop.

    Welcome :)

Megansmum, I am very sorry to hear your news.

I hope everyone had a productive Easter and managed to do a bit of gardening. We spent a lot of time in the garden yesterday. Thanks to advice from people here, we decided to turn one of our four veg patches into a permanent bed, and in it we planted 10 asparagus crowns, some rhubarb and one Jerusalem artichoke tuber to go with the three raspberry canes already there. We also planted rhubarb and jerusalem artichokes in a pot.

I put all my potatoes in the ground too (pink fir apple). They will take up half of one plot and move to a different half next year (hopefully this will work okay, rather than having them in a different plot). I planted radish and nasturtium too and my husband did sprouts, chillis, various salads, shallots and more tomatoes. These are all in the greenhouse because we have run out of windowsill!
