Hi all, love to join in the fun!

1st year growing, already have 6 chilli pots on window sill about 5 inches tall. Plan to keep 3 growing indoors and put 3 out in grow bag when warmer.

    Today planted;

Carrots, potatoes, courgette, spring onions and tomatoes with the help of my children.

Thing is my daughter used the whole packet of carrot seeds in one big pot, just randomly threw them in, how can I save them?

Almost forgot also have stawberries in hanging basket, yum!

You could scoop off the top of the soil and judge how many pots you would of sowed with the seed into properly. Then fill that amount of pots and divvy up the soil you scraped off into the pots.

    Hope that makes sense.

well spent nearly 9 hours in the garden today ...were still finding bits and pieces of the house that is buried in the back garden.. so that is just gonna take so long to get sorted the mini digger though does make the job possible ...without it i wouldve given up a long time ago

we did however fix the swimming pool in the shed so hopefully no more wet seed issues ...

re-potted my four strawb plants am desperate to put them into the container and to buy the rest of what i will need, but am going to wait till the polytunnel arrives then get them in there to try to avoid the squirrel issue that we have, did watch the bit of groud where the polytunnel is going though to see how the sun is and it's looking good will need to turn it on it's side but i think we should get it in that way

broke up the pots that got damaged in winter so that i can use them as drainage and i think thats about it .. seems like we were in the garden for hours (well i spose we were) but it seems like we didnt achieve much ... well we did we did the shed ... i just wanna get planting lol

I know the feeling elantan. :( But it's all going to make next year's work easier!

The rain died off so spent 4 hours digging brambles (3 wheelbarrow loads!!) and ivy.
Still have loads more ivy to pull (and burn).

Planted nothing today as ground was too sodden. The onions and potatoes desperately need to go out but nothing. Should have repotted some stuff but too late now as it's dark. thank goodness for the long weekend.
  • My seeds have arrived, at last! Can I ask a couple of questions please?!

Which is the best compost to sew the seeds in? Do I need one with peat in it/a multi purpose kind/or one like john innes, etc.

Also, I'm uncertain where to put my seed trays once sewn - is it better to put the seed trays on the windowsill or in my plastic greenhouse outside in the sunnyiest part of the garden?

    Thanks for help!

You should sow your seeds in a seed compost as multi-purpose is not as fine as the seed type. I'm no expert but I would have thought that you would be better off putting the seed trays on a warm and sunny windowsill rather than your greenhouse as night time temperatures are still very low.

    Good luck :D

I've just bought two raspberry canes - they are summer fruiting so I know they wont bear fruit this year but where should I plant them? No one part of my garden gets sun all day, can I plant them in large pots does anyone know?

Can't wait for next year as raspberries are my fav fruit :)

    Thanks

Finally planted my spuds into containers yesterday, then woke up thismorning to find I had to scrape a thick frost off my car windscreen!

    I hope they have survived.

I finally got out into the garden (because it hasn't rained today, hooray!) to sow some of my BBC Dig In seeds. I have sown the royal chantenay red carrots (about maybe 1/3 of the pack) and about half of the pack of the mixed leaf salad ones in pots.

I've done all kinds of chilis and tomatos for the past several years, but never from seed (OH's sis gives us tons of seedlings each year!). As a result, this growing veg from seed thing is new to me. I have done other plants before from seed, but nothing I could eat so I'm really excited.

I've stuck them all in pots and they're in the conservatory. And I'm really excited to see what happens over the next several weeks :)

Does anyone know if you can grow raspberries and/or broccoli in pots and containers? If so, has anyone successfully done so?
