I have planted my spuds and carrots out cos the spuds were all purpley and spikey. Also filled my raised beds with compost. I can't afford to buy owt else so I can't put topsoil in it. Warming the soil up nicely now with some industrial bubble wrap and a cold frame my hubby built from leftover timber and the plastic sheeting we got from freecycle.
I have some leek seedlings might put some in tomorrow and start them off in the house.
It's all exciting!0 -

My plum tomatoes on the windowsill are in 4" pots and are about 5" tall now. I bought some 10" tomato pots from Wilcos - when do you think I need to pot them on? I keep turning them round on the windowsill though so they are straight and I wondered when I needed to get my canes in to support them.
Never grown tomatoes before can you tell! I was given a tomato plant 2 years ago but it was already mature and in a tomato pot when it came to me.
Must dig out my books tonight.0 -
I am hoping for some help from you experts.
My husband has left me - he was the one who was into gardening. Money is extremely tight, as I am trying to keep on the house on my own, and I want to grow as much veg as possible to save money. We already have a bit of the garden with brambles, raspberries and rhubarb. This leaves a bed which is about 3 foot by 7 foot for veg. can you recommend what would be easiest for a complete novice and would give a good crop.
Live in Scotland, so need to take temperatures here into account! Also the fact that I work full time, and need to factor in the time I spend ferrying 3 children about
I have seen that Poundland have various seeds - are these worthwhile?0 -
