Wow- that looks almost industrial there Turbo!! Loks like you have and will be busy this year.

Got a great big greenhouse to use. Im thinkg of getting one with 20% off at B&Q
  • Can I recommend the RHS site for anyone planning a new vegetable garden. Lots of hints and tips for starting out, good advice about sowing etc.

Before you do pick up a Wilko catalogue as there is loads of stuff they do not do in-store. I've seen greenhouses in it recently. Will probably still be much cheaper than B&Q even with their 20% off.

I'll add some photos later of what it was like 2 years ago!
We were lucky that my dad didn't use the greenhouse anymore so they gave it to us. I always said I didn't need one I was wrong.
The water butts and compost bins were mainly from other people we begged and borrow. DH saw the water tank on B&Q last year cheap less than half price and holds 900lts. I didn't think it would every be full but all the butts are overflowing at min! All in about 1380ltr of water

Nice to catch up with how everyone is doing!

I'm thrilled because my garlic cloves are all sprouting, although my tomatoes aren't doing so well and not convinced they are going to do anything so have sown some more... Herbs are doing nicely and parsley is starting to look like parsley - coriander however has gone mad and is taking over!

Am waiting for my Dig In seeds to arrive, but got a Lakeland catalogue through the post the other day with their new gardening catalogue in it - and a free packet of T&M salad leaf seeds! Shame I bought some a few months ago, but sure they will come in useful!

I am so pleased :) Lovely in a sandwich!

Hey look great, are these "lambs" lettuce? Are you doing these indoors?

I thought it was too early for indoors but maybe not

I read on something the other day you need to thin lettuce seeds- I takeit you didnt think- how did you sow them?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

I sowed salad leaves last year and although the packet said to thin them out I didn't (they were leaves, not lettuces) and they were great, kept on picking them until they bolted and by then my next sowings were ready to be picked.

Also I looked on the packet today as I sowed my first lot and it says on there that you can sow them in February if indoors - again, mixed leaves not whole lettuces.

    Thanks Kimmee

I have done them before and been successful for a short time until they bolt like mad ( rocket?)

I think part of the boltage is the fact I put too much seed in? ( and didnt water enough + not enough drainage) HOw much seed have you used?

What sort of drainage have you used. just holes or crockery/ gravel as well?
