Hey im also wondering about blood fish and bone, will google in a sec and find out. Always feel rather sick when I see it in shops _pale_
Just wondering. I need to get my peas on the go, to transplant the 4 Ive got going and do lots more. For anyone doing container growing what sort of container is best for lots. I have plenty of Mr M buckets, but I cant seem to drill the holes in the bottom the one I tried just shattered into bits ??
I was thinking about doing reg 2 to a bucket and having maybe 10 buckets? 20 plants doesnt seem enough really. Im deifnatley going to grow mange tout later as they grow like billy-o ( whoever he was) and crop likie mad ( I do remember us geting rather bored of them- stirfry anyone? but we gave lots away and they are v expensive to buy and shipped from Bolivia or wherever- not so good.
Shall I do them in the large polystyrene fish container? How many can I get away with putting in one of these? Very confusing.
Ive just planted up my rocket salad and the courgette ( bush type) is popping out. I swear everytime the patty pan is glanced at it has grown. Oh I just looked over at them then and the other 2 are popping through! This is great :T:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Yeah blod, fish and bone is an organic fertiliser. I tend to use that with chicken pellets to enrich the ground0

I am in london and have a flat roof out the back, was refused a roof terrace so am now making use of the space
So far have grown lettuce, tomatoes, spring oniions, red peppers, courgettes, basil, thyme, dill, parsley, rocket salad
Have already put the lettuce out in big pots and they are coing on nicely, today as the sun is shining and if dd lets me I will re pot the tomatoes that are now a good 5 inches into big pots so they can trail and overhang
The herbs I am going to also putinto a big pot once the get a big bigger so I can have two big pots of different herbs
The sourgettes I am waiting to get a bit bigger then they will go in the grow bags - if I put this up againist the wall will they be okay? THey grow upwards dont they? Have got some wire to help them climb
The new neighbours can obviously see all my pots up on their roof but havent said anything yet...0 -
Yooo hoo
Hello fellow londoner
What borough are you in?Im in Lambeth/Southwark borders- for non londoners the use of the word borders does not signify posh
:rotfl: ( E&C)
Im certain we have seen the last of the frost, dont you? I am covering carrots/pots and perp spinach in fleece to stop the birds taking the seed mainly. But im thinking it wont be long until some stuff can go outdoors proper.
Confused roast, what type of courgette seeds do you have, some are climbers some are bush type. Ive got black beauty ( bush) in a pot, waiting to grow a bit then it will go outside in late april early may. I also have tonno heritage type, a globe type that is a climber and will go up trellis. I also have some climbing patty pans for the pagoda in both yellow and green. Anyone sense a glut in the offing
Im now thinking I want to put the peas in the polystyrene box, but it is very deep and Im worried about "wasting the compost" as its expensive, difficult to get ( weight/ wheels issue)
Ive started a couple of little pots with a few peas in that will be pea shoots for salads, they will be ready in say 3 weeks, they will go under pop-bottle cloche to stop the birds getting them on shaded patio.
I think I might start the oregano & basil this morning as well, in the garden room, it is warm up there even today with it being overcast.
Ive got an ancient mixing bowl ( plastic) that I was thinking about starting the lollo rosso in
Has anyone got any tips as to how to get holes in plastic without shattering? Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

Just put dd down for a nap so am about to put all pots onkitchen windowsill in water for a soak as the sun is gonna shine nice and bright today and hopefuly they will grow grow grow!!
Once dd is awake am off to ally pally (Alexandra Palace) for a nice walk and off to the farmers market, hubby is playing golf so should be back when we get home and then he can help me put tomoato plants out!0 -
I was putting fleece balnkets on my lettuce and flowers (have also got 5 x long tubs of daffs, crocus etc) but stopped putting it out as of sunday as I reckon no more frost now - not even put the heating on this week as its loveyl and mild - I have temperature things in the living room and our room as dd sleeps in there, I remember in Jan when we had that cold snap I waskeeping the heating on all night as otherwise it would dip down to 10 degrees and thats too cold for her room, this week its telling me its 18 degreees which is just right!!!0

Oh lovely. Once OH gets out of his pit, We are ( Ive decided) going to take the dog out and have a look at that random castle in Shooters hill & maybe a spot of lunch and a wander around blackheath.
Can I be trusted not to buy anymore seeds though? Unlikely:beer: Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.

haha I was eyeing up some more seeds in poundland the other day - wondering if it worth buying carrotts?? Probably not as Asda do a massive bag for 50pence
Seen some lovely Gladioli on offer at BnQ for £2 for 30 bulbs!!0 -
I dont know about carrots TBH.
I am doing them in big trugs, but honestly to thinkabout how many I might actually end up with seems like a lot of effort ( and space) for effectively not a lot of yeild. In saying that I might see if I can get some chantenays or round ones ( eg parmex, paris market?) as they need a shallower tub, grow quicker and generally a quicker cropper.
The flavour of HG carrots is so so so superior to asda or any other supermarket carrots ( aside from organic) they are like a different thing altogether.I do try to buy only organicx carrots now as the flav is completely different *ie not forced, taste watery etc* Although now I have a farm shop I go to in Norfolk that does the best stuff carrots/ snips etc cheaper than even asdas prices, the colour is practically fluorescent, covered in mud- the best carrots weve had for a while. Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Is lovely and sunny so we are going to atttempt some gardening and planting a few things!!!Can't wait for the shops to open!!!
My Dad said that it would help the veg grow and be healthy. I have to sprinkle it over the ground and fork it in before planting. I am just taking his advice on this, only £1 for a box in poundland, so it's worth a try!!
Also I am going to grow carrots, but mostly because my 2 year old loves carrots and I thought he would enjoy seeing them grow and pulling them out of the ground. Got the seeds free from cbeebies, so hasn't really cost me any extra to do them.Sorting my life out to give a better life to my:heartsmil 2 gorgeous boys :heartsmil0
