I'm not entirely a "newbie" as I have grown some Fruit & veg for a number of years but this year I will be a "newbie" on the Allotment and a "newbie" at growing Aubergines, celeriac etc etc so I thought I would join you all.;)
Spring finally looks like it's on the way and I'm excited to see that my Aubergine, peppers and chilli seeds that I planted a couple of weeks ago are finally peeping through. Also this week I have sown Broad beans, broccoli, sprouts, cabbage, carrots, cauli's, celeriac, courgette, leeks, lettuce, peas, radish, spring onions, squash, sweet peas and various types of Tomatoes - have them all in the Greenhouse and running out of space. Can't wait for them to start peeping through. The Carrots I will continue sowing at 2 week intervals and will do the same with the Radish and lettuce. Glad we can all give each other encouragement.:D"WASTE NOT, WANT NOT!"GC for OH, myself, DD18 & DD16 includes Toiletries, cleaning stuff & Food.

WooHoo! My broccoli in the greenhouse has started to germinate!
Does anyone know if birds like sweet pea shoots? Am wondering whether mine have been the victim of hungry birds - they've been in the ground for ages but so far nothing doing...0 -
Thanks for your reply, lynzpower. Is there such a thing as cat grass?:o
Barb
Yes Barb there is, I've got a packet of seeds from Johnsons which I got at my local garden centre and I'm going to sow it this weekend. My cat eats lots of plants (I don't have a lawn) and he's sick so I thought that if I grew cat grass he would eat that and not get sick!
You can grow it indoors or outside throughout the year in a low pot, apparantly the seedlings appear after 3-5 days and you should trim it when it's 2-3 inches long to prevent it from becoming coarse.

YoungBean - Sorry for your loss, hope your sproutings are still growing x
Rimmiba - Yes you can grow cat grass it is very quick to germinate or you can also buy a cat grass Kit in some pet shops. It has taken my cat a long time to start eating it but he does now when he needs it.
We have lots of little sproutings including some lettuce YAY!!! :T
Broccoli, chilli, toms, cucumbers, watermelon, corriander and cabbage
Need to wait another few weeks then may start my seeds outside.
Does anyone know a good long range forcast website?Restarting C25K in 2014 - Week 8 - 1/3 completed

IM so disappointed as I have a failing cable for my phone so I cant post pics but Ive got some good happenings here.
Toms going great guns on sunny shelf indoors.
Have brought in yellow patty pans which has now germinated and is emerging from seed.
This is what my 1st lot of SOs look like.
Think Ive got the ever so slight startings of the carrots but its often too dark to see. I think I need to plant more carrots as bought another trug this week ( pink!) for more :j
broadbeans have been transplanted into a shallow trug with canes in knotted together in the garden room.
All seems to be going rather well??! Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
I finally got some seeds planted.:j Been trying for the past 3 weeks but just as one daughter gets over chicken pox then the next one goes down with it. I have done 100 early peas and 8 butternut squash. I'm hoping to get the carrots and the rest of the potatoes done tomorrow.
I will try and take some photos tomorrow as well.GC July £250/0 -
Hi
Can I join?
Im a total newbie and so am growing from seed a load of things. I have a new garden and have planted:
Rhubarb
Raspberries
An apple tree
some herbs
some potatoes
some onions
lettuce
spinach
rainbow chard
Some peas which are growing heartily
Some leeks
something else green and shooty (I can't remember what it is)
AND I have so many extras that I want to plant lol
Things are growing and sprouting and I'm finding them a bit of an excitement. Especially my lettuce which I am growing inside. I ate some of it yesterday (I grew it early) and oh my goodness- what a flavour! I am gonna use some this week for sandwiches
Hope you are all doing well with your beautiesFeb GC: £200 Spent: £190.790
