  • I was looking at buying potato growing bags but I may just take a visit to our local Morrisons...I was looking to pay £11 for 3 bags but this is ideal.

I have not done this before but my friend does it and I'd like to have a go. I want to grow potatoes, garlic, herbs and perhaps try beans. You all make it sound possible, so I am going to have a go.

    Thanks

    Hi Skaps, welcome :D

As mentioned in another post, it depends where in the country you are as to whether to start sowing indoors/outdoors now. Whereabouts are you?

Hi thanks for the advice. Im in essex

Thanks for all the tips, ran out of pots so will have to buy some more.

The seeds do not say what type of lettuce or spinach it is.

Hello all!! bit late joining the thread, but we moved into our house last July and dug out the vegetable patch before xmas, now itching to get started! i have a lot of seeds i've been given and trying to figure out what i can start etc. these posts are very helpful as there seems to be lots of people like me with no patience!!

i have just bought one of those plastic greenhouses, the £30 ones from argos as i thought i could put tomatoes and peppers in there. s this the place i can start trays of seeds off uncovered, or do i need those little propagator things? or am i best putting them on the windowsill indoors for now?

we had a real bonus in that the last people left a whole composter full of proper compost (it actually was exactly like potting you buy) so that was dug into the soil

    i
i have just planted out my asparagus crowns as it said early spring. would i be best putting a cloche over them to protect them?

i'm scared!! lol.. i suppose the worst that will happen is nothing will grow.. and i just cant imagine the excitement of seeing my own veg growing!!

and here is a pic of my son helping me dig the garden!!
  • Hey all, thanks for all the help so far,

today i have sown seeds for carrots, spring onions, brocolli, sprouts, parsnips and cabbages, they all have propogators on some are on the windowsill, this is the first time so i hope they work. I have also seen a grow your own mushroom set in B and Q and was considering getting this. Need to find either a raised garden bed or a green house for relatively cheap tho me thinks.

Ive been thiking about getting a mushroom set but I dont think I will bother. Most dont seem to get that much out of them? In my old garden it was damp covered in trees couldnt grow anything in it but would have done well with a mushroom rotting log. You need to have the right sort of garden I think for them they seem to do better than the packages from B&Q

I have been reading about someone on the internet who grows mushrooms from spent mushroom compost he stores under his house http://green-change.com/2009/01/17/growing-mushrooms-from-mushroom-compost/

    How cool is that
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
