I bought six strawberry plants this year. Three are producing strawberries. They are all producing lots of runners. Should I cut some of these off to give more strength to the main plant.
Also I have tip layered some of the runners into new pots and they have produced roots so have cut them off. Do I replant these into the ground or keep them in small pots for now?
Sorry for all the questions, I am so new to this!
Here are some pictures, carrots, salad leaves, peas, courgettes were all sown 15 May.

Sorry if this sounds stupid but I planted some vegetables in the garden of a property that I am currently buying (no one lives at property but have permission to use garden) so last night I completely used up all the water in the waterbutt on the following plants:
Greenhouse:
2 mini cucumbers in a growbag
1 tomato plant in soil
1 sweet pepper in soil
2 chilli peppers in soil
1 aubergine in a small pot
Outside in vegetable plot
3 pumkin plants
4 drawf french beans
6 rows of climbing beans just seeds just sown.
Now I know it will rain on Tuesday and Thursday, my concern is today should I risk not watering them, use the hose thats on a water meter, take some bottled water down and just water the plants in the greenhouse.
Also can anyone recommend something to add to the compost bin to keep the smell down or speed up the process. At the moment the compost bin has chopped up chard and possibly chopped up overgrown spinach plants that were on the vegetable plot.0 -
Hi All,
Quick question about swede, is anyone growing them? Planted some seeds about 8 weeks ago, nothing doing after 4 weeks so put tray to one side and forgot all about them. Went to empty and clean tray to reuse this morning and have twelve seedlings! The problem is now have nowhere to put them in the ground. Would I be able to grow them in Mr M's buckets 1 per bucket? At least then they could go on patio. Any suggestions welcome.Sometimes not moving backwards is as much an achievement as moving forwards is on other times. (originally posted by kidcat)
It's only a bargain if you were going to buy it anyway!0 -
I am in deliberation today my greenhouse is full to bursting do I move my pumpkins and courgette outside? Would they survive outside and not under cover need to move them or I will not be able to get into greenhouse to water anything but don't want them to die I suppose I could tread very carefully when in greenhouse but it will be very difficult Any Ideas ???
Any advice please (I live in the North-West just outside Manchester)0 -

I am also in the NW and I have planted my courgettes outside as I do not have a greenhouse yet.. They need much watering in the current hot weather. I have already harvested 3 courgettes and there are some more in the pipeline, all these from just 4 plants grown from the dig-in seeds. HTH.:)

I tried to grow swede last year, with rather limited success. They're best off sown directly into the ground. Mrbadexample snr reckons you have to have a field to grow them properly.
Having said that, try! And let me know how you get on!If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0 -
Allo!
Hope all your gardens are well! I can't believe how many little teeny tiny chillis I have on my chilli bush. However I have learnt that you shouldn't rub your eyes after fondling your chilli plants lol. Got a great recipe for tomato and chilli relish so that will be what everyone is having for their christmas LOL
I have squashes growing and pumpkins but only the plants, no flowers as of yet but I'm hopeful!
Hope you are all having a good day

Thanks for this post. It reminded me that I wasn't growing any swede. So, I checked the seed packet and it says sow until July.
I've popped out and sown some around the edge of my new raised bed (along with more beetroot and turnips). They may well get shaded out by the cauliflower, but nothing ventured, nothing gained eh Rodney? If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.0
