OS Daily Thread - Thursday 18th February 2010

Hi there! This is the Daily Thread for Thursday 18th February. It is an 'Over the garden fence' type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
Please do not start a new Daily Thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two Dailys' live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new Daily Thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “Hi everyone, hope you are all well” type start is just as good.
Morning OS lovelies, wave.gif
Mioliere - Really pleased you had a good time over here and nice to see you posting again.
hilstep - Neighbours is a guilty pleasure of mine too and in her recent storylines Susan had a fall and a miscarriage and the stress of that has made her relapse. As my sister has MS I take an interest in the storyline too. And I am really pleased you have had your claim sorted out. I had to wait about 4 months for mine too but the backdated money was a fabulous treat when it arrived.
Nic1 - the yellow peppers I grew that are smaller but really sweet, were Capsicum barancio. The prolific red ones I grew were Pepper Beauty Bell ,(can't find a link) and Redskin were the most compact plants though the peppers were certainly full size!
Lisa - I don't think you are sad for loving your new (old) slow cooker!
Rachel - I am impressed you could get INTO something you wore when you were 20, though admittedly I have no idea how old you are now..giggle.gif I hope it all goes well for you on the 29th hon.
jc - big hugs for you.
sistercas - I don't do facebook either.
Haribo - We have a black and white photo wall too! It's in the utility room so my OH has something interesting to look at when he is loading the TD...giggle.gif
HShungry.gifBreakfast today is a cup of redbush and 4 apricot and vanilla twinks, and lunch will be savoury rice and toast. Dinner will be the rest of the tuna flan, this time with salad and boiled potatoes. I might send the OH back to Morrisons as 45p a tin is too good to pass up for tuna which has become so expensive over the last year or two.
I did well with the baking yesterday - we have 35 twinks in the biscuit barrel and a 'sausage' of raw mixture in the freezer for cookie emergencies! Also a nice weetabix loaf and some cheese straws. I also made some pastry both sweet and savoury and today I plan to make some cheese and onion and pepper pasties and some fruit pies with the frozen berries and summer fruits I have in the freezer. Never made fruit pies before so that should be fun!
I hope everyones day is as good as it can be, and that anyone feeling poorly head%20cold.gif feels better soon. With love, light and squishy HShuggies.gif for all.

    :rotfl:Morning peeps

thick fog and heavy snow here today  drove to w*rk and there is neither! Hope its all gone later :D

I need to buy a new lightswitch for the bathroom, the pull cord keeps jamming and the light won`t come on - makes getting ready for w*rk at 4am a bit challenging :D

The meal planner will be tweaked later and i shall make this weekends shopping list up early as i need to forward plan a bit for the next couple of days as i`m off w*rk and need to fit lots of things into my time off.

No washing to hang up today as the wm has had a night off - first one for quite a while so just the dw to sort out later as DH will have emptied the breadmaker.

Last night we ended up having giant yorkie puds with lincolnshire sausages and heaps of veg for tea, all smothered in onion gravy and it was lovely, good old winter food. Tonight we have a choice of beef stew and crusty bread or beef, jackets and veg so i shall see what we fancy later..

Cranky40 - Lol at the cat, we used to have one that used to stand in a box of tissues and shred the lot. Our current cat has been "playing" in the pots of compost that i brought in to plant some peppers.

Have a good day peeps, keep safe and warm.

    Gosh quiet in here today.

I have been up and out to collect DD as she was at a party and over indulged so had to be collected:eek: She is now grounded and at my beck and call for a couple of days. Its a good job that Im feeling bit better today else she would have been stranded. I rather think I should have left her anyway but then she would end up getting into a tizz and i would have had to pick up the pieces. Verrrry cold out there this morning with freezing fog.

So Im now on my second cuppa and need to get organised as i hardly got anything done although my kids were very helpful and I felt lucky that they were at home. Perhaps things are changing?.........
Hugs for a good day xxx

Morning. Have not been on for a week or so as I was on some late shift that meant I could not get up in the morning.
I have 6 days off, having spent one yesterday.
The new log burner I put in is working great. Half a basket of logs and the room is toasty. Before it was 2 baskets going up the chimney and little heat.
Made Fillet steak wellington last night with some discount fillet I bought a few weeks back. Caught up on Lark Rise that I missed on Sunday....
    Old peg leg eh?
Well, OH wants to look at a car today. Hers does need replacing, but i am not sure of her choice:o Don't think I can talk her out of it.
Need to figure out the best loan/credit deal though first.... Tarting is the best option, so i need to work some magic today.

    Cheers folks

Morning Diva, Sunnyday, Molly41, N9eav and all who follow :)

I have a day off today :j:j:j Lots to do though..... although nothing on the OS front really - apart from making a loaf of bread, doing some washing and making some fairy cakes for the tin. I have a 4000 word project to hand in on Tuesday, which I haven't even started yet :o So I will be spending most of my life doing that ;)

Diva - apricot and vanilla twinks sound delish (am I to assume you add vanilla extract and chopped apricots to the twink mixture )

Sunnyday - Giant yorkies are fab aren't they :)

Molly41 - Will your DD be resting quietly today ;)

Hope everyone has a lovely day (((((hugs)))))
Squares knitted for my throw ~ 90 (yes!!! I have finally finished it :rotfl: )
Squares made for my patchwork quilt ~ 80 (only the "actual" quilting to do now :rotfl:)

Cranky, what a nightmare with the gas pipe.
Molly, glad you are feeling better.
Diva, thanks for the pepper info.
Today's plans include vacuumimng the stairs & landing, what an exciting life I lead.
Porridge for breakfast, corned beef sandwich for lunch & stuffed breast of lamb for tea.
    Have a good day everyone.
    Hugs Hester.

  • Good Morning All

Freezing fog here too, had to drive home in it last night - was a slow journey.

Thursday already! This week is whizzing by. Today will be having a bit of everything day. DD is having her friend over again to make another banner for her concert Sunday. DS needs to finish his homework. I will do some hours in the office this morning then potter around this afternoon. Might try and pop out somewhere on my own - think might go to the library.

Have Chinese takeaway from M&S for dinner tonight. It was on special the other day so can't get easier than that. Perhaps will actually get round to some baking today.

Anyway off now to check the banks, hope there is no nasty suprises!

    Have a great day.x

    Morning all,

Pouring with rain here, so not so cold, off to work today, so will need to go and make my lunch up in a while, I think a tuna sandwich today with some fruit.

Only one more sleep till dd gets home :o, I spoke to her on the phone last night, and she is having a great time, but she misses home ;), I think they are off shopping today which she is looking forward to.

Dinner tonight will be burger chips and beans, nice and easy, and I have sainsbugs delivering two weeks worth of shopping for the first time, worked out a bit cheaper so hope it works for us.

Need to put a wash on tonight, and have a tidy round, although it doesn't need a lot.

    Have good days all xx

    Morning everyone.

Brrrrr cold here but no snow or fog (just had to put out the wheelie bin etc as it's collection day). thank goodness I've got my long fleecy dressing gown on (although no shower or anything yet so I still look a fright )
Popping up local shops this morning. Want to stock up on my cheapie birthday cards. I normally keep a stash in the house and I've run out. We've got a Card Factory so they are less than a £1 a card in there :D In an ideal world I'd make cards but I just don't have the time at the moment.

Tea tonight will be country vegetable and sausage stew. It's a Sainsbury's recipe that I found in a magazine and sounds quite tasty. I need a leek so I think I will pull my first one from the garden  I keep waiting for them to get a bit bigger and they're not so I think I need to get eating them otherwise it's a plot being taken up that I could use for something else.
I do really need to get my finger out regarding what I am growing this year. Got a quite a few seeds, got no planning done what I am growing where :o

DD seems in a mood with a snotty nose. Think today is going to be a big stress with her today <rollseyes>

Diva - enjoy your baking today.

N9eav - sorry link didn't show anything. I take it she's having a Chrysler? We used to have the PT Cruiser. They are lovely but not so economical on the petrol side of things

Hugs to those that need them. Have a good day OS or not.
