Orange wednesday and 3D

Our local Odeon charge you also whether you take your own glasses or not, remember asking after the 1st 3D film we went to see and was told it was a set price with or with out the glasses.
When was the last time you went? I'm sure this used to be the case, but most places have since changed this (happened sometime in January, I think) and now charge separately for the glasses if you need them. At least this is the case in both my local Cineworld and Odeon cinemas.0 -
Apollo in Fareham has a sign up saying Orange Wednesday is accepted but you have to pay for the glasses. Has been up for a while and it was near the price board too.** Total debt: £6950.82 ± May NSDs 1/10 **** Fat Bum Shrinking: -7/56lbs **
**SPC 2012 #1498 -£152 and 1499 ***
I do it all because I'm scared.

The extra cost for 3D films isn't just paying for the glasses, it's the extra cost for the 3D projector - tens of thousands of pounds (£80k according to this news item I saw).
Cineworld I heard charges you extra for 3D and then also another charge for glasses.
Vue charge you a set price for 3D whether you have your own glasses or not. They also charge the extra for Orange Wednesday, Adults are charged more for 3D than children/teens/students and seniors. So if you have 1 adult and 1 child on Orange Wednesday the adult pays the normal adult price then you pay the 3D upgrade price for a child. This is because Orange Wednesdays don't cover 3D. Which is Orange's T&Cs. (I know this cause I work at Vue, well 2 shifts left and then I'm gone lol)0 -

Sounds all very reasonable. In fact I think it's great that some cinemas accept Orange Wednesdays on 3D films at all- it's above and beyond what they have to under the terms of the offer.0 -
I took my son to see Avatar at Cineworld Dundee with Orange Weds a few weeks ago. We were charged for one adult 3D ticket and 2 pairs of glasses, which we took home afterwards. We were asked if we already owned glasses, as we could have used them instead. I was happy to pay for these as I'm not sure I'd like to have had use of "Cinema owned specs" even if this came for free.
I was also happy to find that the extra 3D charge of £2ish was included in the Orange weds, as I went to the cinema expecting to pay this.
Well done Cineworld, I say!
It's only a game

It's nice to see so many nice, thoughtful and reasonable people posting to such a thread, drowing out all the ignorant, loutish ranty ones.
Happy, happy, happy time.0 -
Our Odeon (Liverpool) let us see Avatar 3D using Orange Wednesday :T 3D films are more expensive to cover the glasses, so it was £9ish for two of us0

The cinemas actually dont make a great deal of money on the ticket prices themselves, with big films like Avatar they make even less, this is why the popcorn etc. is always so expensive.
Most of the money from the ticket prices go to the film distributers and up the food chain to the movie studios.
Its great the the cinemas allow 3D films to be part of the Orange wednesday promotion, the charge for the glasses is a one off at my local cinema and you can re-use them.
I have a cineworld unlimited pass and have to pay an extra £1.30 if I want to go see a 3D film, I dont object to paying that once in a while to see a 3D film if its one I want to see.Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0 -
Generally i've found 3D films are always more expensive so charges for 3D film plus charge for glasses (reusuable in cineworld). This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
