Sneaky 'forward rolls' - Asda prices

Went to Asda today to see Cherry toms up from 64p to 79p and Charlotte new potatoes (750g) from 68p to 81p. I did not buy either, settled on six salad toms for 68p and choose loose new pots which were 66p a kilo.
Things go up by such big jumps it is hard to understand why, unless they have been selling them as 'loss leaders' for a while.0 -
Not been to any of the big supermarkets for a couple of weeks now......been living off the contents of the freezer and my veggie delivery. Also been getting DD to bring some essentials in on her way home from work, so not noticed, but will be paying attention this week, when I really will have to go.
Was just thinking on reading the thread.....do you think that all the supermarkets do this during the holidays, and think people won't notice as they've maybe been away etc etc? Just a thought.........:rolleyes:0 -

Hi
I know sad or what but I have just gone through my last shop online at Tesco and am stunned at how much some prices have gone up. Not just a penny or so , but 10 or 20 in a couple of weeks. Cherry Toms up 10p, Savoy up 12p, beef and pork mince up 20p, toilet rolls up 13p!
I have noticed that the veg has been rubbish lately - maybe it's the weather or change of season - I can't remember if it is usually rubbish at this time of the year.0 -
ohhhh, so its not my mad imagination, prices have gone up!

As the price rises seem to be across the board with the supermarkets, I suspect it is probably a case of rising fuel costs finally hitting consumers. For the whole of the last year since fuel costs rose dramatically, those rises haven't been passed on to the consumer to any great extent. Probably partly because the big multiples having hedging strategies on their fuel supplies so were using up large stocks of fuel bought at lower prices, and partly because they were hoping prices would drop again and were prepared to take the hit for a while.
Of course if they didn't insist of driving produce around the country twice before delivering it back to a supermarket 5 miles from where it was grown, they might find that fuel costs were not such a problem.0 -
