They do this every year though.
Their large chicken went up something like 70p last year.
The flour will jump from as little as 9p to as much as 25p in a matter of weeks.
It must be the same whatever the shop, things come into season and so they can be cheap ,a good year for the farmers who supply them can mean prices are low, a bad year(could be drought or flooding) will mean they go up.
I suppose if there is no rain, there is no grass fro the cows,so the farmers must feed them the food stores that they should keep for winter or buy food for them, so milk and beef prices will rise. Even if its a roll back item the farmers etc still need paying.
I resent their loss leaders disappearing over night more than gradual price rise, Asda used to have sunflower spread in 500g tubs for 19p and now the cheapest I can buy is 88p for a kg.

I noticed low fat yogurt pots have increased in size by 50g, 11% to 500g, and the price went up by 15p, 40% from 38p to 53p!

I have emailed Asda to ask why - will post the reply!

I nearly always buy the same items. I'm on a DMP and set aside £60 for the weekly budget - which includes food, household stuff, money for school, couple of pounds to buy my little one the odd treat etc. My weekly shop used to cost around £45 picked up from Asda and £50 delivered from Tesco and now the whole £60 (and then some) is going on food and a few household things. This is a huge difference, and is hitting us hard as we haven't got the spare couple of quid for treats to keep us going.

We very rarely go out socialising, so a walk to the park is a day out and being able to buy an ice-lolly is part of that treat.

It's actually getting me quite down. The further I try to stretch the money, the further it needs to go.

    Stardrop upto 72p from 58p...!!!
    Oh no!!! I knew I should've stockpiled!
I know that oil prices are up, perhaps I'm naiive - but I really can't see how that can force the prices up quite so much.
Millie john - I really feel for you. I should really sort out a DMP but am scared to as I don't want to end up in a similar situation - so in the meantime I'm still jugglling debts (if I can even claim to be doing that much!)

as mandy moo said the fresh minced beef in morrisons has jumped up in price. it says it a bigger pack, but i'm not convinved. if it is a bigger pack it is by only a small amount. this has really made me think i used to use mince alot as it make cheap meals. but i am finding it hard to get it cheap of late.

i am buying the 800g pack from tesco now and cutting it in two, then making chilli from one half , bulking it out with 3 tins toms , 4 tins kidney beans and this then makes 7 meals for 2. which i guess isn't too bad.

Well I guess Hubby is going to have to start eating cheaper food. He hates things like chilli, cottage pie etc so I'm a bit stuck. Oooh I just remembered that I haven't eaten my favourite food from childhood in ages - cheese and potato pie! Mmmmm.

MillieJon and jcr16 - you can bulk minced beef out with tsp (textured soya protein/soya mince) I used to do this years ago. To pass it off as 'minced beef' soak it in some beef stock to rehydrate, then use with your beef mince. I think I started off with about a 1:4 soya to minced beef, eventually increasing to half and half.

Prunes were until recently 42p at ASDA for a large tin (I am one of those weirdies that actually likes prunes) and suddenly shot up to 60p! I was quite stunned and marched off to Tesco to get them there cheaper, but found they had matched ASDA's price - is there a prune shortage or something as that is one heck of a price hike??
