I still find Asda far cheaper than Tesco - but I think the challenge when changing from online shopping to 'DIY' is to not put all the 'extras' in the trolley.
I was a regular online shopper until Mr T kept messing up my orders and I'm glad that I was given that extra push to shop at Asda again as it is much cheaper. As Tesco is so close to me I do nip in for the odd thing, but do my best not to buy a lot there as (apart from occasional offers) it is dearer - even with the sneaky 'forward rolls' in prices I've noticed at Asda!

The wholesale price of beef has shot through the roof in the last few months - supposidly connected with the lifting of the UK meat ban - this would explain mince prices rising, but not bacon. ?:happylove0

I use Ecover Washing Liquid and always buy it at Asda as it's cheapest there - but when we went in there this week, it had gone up from £3.99 to £4.38!
I did notice the bottle had a little "flash" on it saying "NEW - pioneering ingredients" and the address of the Ecover website, but when you look at the list of ingredients it's the same as before except that it now also contains "citrates".0 -

Twink - wish you were a bit closer and I could give you some of my kefir to try! At that price I would certainly been given the extra push to start make my own yog had I not discovered kefir (not exactly the same, but much easier to make) We used to buy at least 2 pots a week.
I'm wondering if anyone who has been sticking to a regular 'tight' budget has now started to find it difficult to maintain as the price increases are so steep (and mostly on the 'basics' as well) Admitedly this thread started out partly as a 'rant' but it would be really interesting to see what other increases others have noticed and how it's affecting people - especially as the price increases are quite high % wise.

As for easy - I strain the new batch (ready in 24 hours) pop the grains in the new milk and fridge the 'made' batch. While it's 'working' I just leave it on the kitchen unit!
Here's a link to the thread on MSE OS about it (how I found out)

Kazonline,
I noticed exactly the same thing the other day, namely little gems, were 48p, now 54p, cherry toms, were 58p, now 64p (surely at this time of year they should be going down? So really you can predict what will be "rolled back" now just by watching for the price hikes. Bit of a cheek really.
