At the moment this thread's a simple place to direct people to but I guess it will become dormant after the show goes out. I've tried saving it to disk but have only got a few pages. Anyone know how to save a local copy of a forum?

Thanks SouthernBellE, at least I have a new builder who is doing some of the work. I know I will run out of money soon but I hope to at least have a roof and a couple of rooms finished. I am finding it very difficult coming to terms with the fact that I have been ripped off. It is even harder to deal with the fact that no one can help. I have been to the police, consumer direct and the CAB but they all say they can't help and I should take him to court. I went to a solicitor the other day and was told that it would cost up to £20,000 to take him to court and he probably wouldn't pay up anyway.
Think I will create a new post when I get a bit more time to write a more detailed description of my situation. At least it will make me feel better. Will also read this post from the beginning to see if there is anything that I haven't thought of.0 -
My inbox was full and I haven't received your PM. Please resend. I don't know why it doesn't store new messages until there's space for them.
Also SB is right - this thread's a bit long and starting your own might be better. It's not because we don't want you on here! I know how you might be feeling. There are many others in the same situation.

I'm so glad you came back to post again, relieved is probably a better word!
It's good to know that you will be able to get your roof done so your current living situation, although not ideal, is only temporary and you know things can be done a bit at a time, you're down but you're certainly not out!:)
I understand your frustration and why should you come to terms with someone stealing from you!! Even worse is that they can continue doing the same thing to other families over and over! We've ranted about the system many times on here and I think it's made us all realise how flawed the system is and that changes need to be made in the law to stop protecting the guilty.......A WHOLE NEW TOPIC and a fight that could take years but one I hope gets taken on and supported all the way!
Glad you'll think about starting your own thread when the time is ready but I'm sure your main priority is to get yourself and your kids back into the family home so focus on that first, plenty of useful tips on ways to save money on putting things back together, if and when you decide to start your thread, please PM me & let me know, at least I'll be sure of finding you....;) still learning my way around the forum AND computers!:o
Thanks Mike for jumping in.........having been there and done that, you'll know exactly how OP feels! Good luck to you both in recovering your money.........................eventually!!PROUD MEMBER OF

Hi Mike
I haven't read the whole thread, just the start and end - and I am SOOOOOO happy that DIY SOS are getting involved. Being able to live in a liveable home will no doubt make such a difference to your health, then you will have some more strength to hopefully win your case against the ****** that caused this mess for you, but it not be so much stress for you, as you wouldn't have everything else to juggle at the same time.
This thread has made me tear up a bit, and I would like to say a huge thank you to everyone on here who has done their bit to help Mike, I honestly wish I had found this thread sooner, or wished I lived a little closer so I could come and move bricks when you need the help! Its nice to know that there are good people out there!
All the best Mike, sorry you have had a rough hand lately, but it sounds like things are on the up!

Hi to all you fantastic people
I have just finished reading the whole thread, can't even remember now how I found it, but what a result! Perhaps when Mike's house is finished (and I knew he was a bloke from the beginning - that's how thorough my reading has been !!) you could put your collective might to mending 'broken Britain' or solving the problem of the Credit Crisis?!?
A good friend has been going through hell with her builder as well as being ill with all sorts of things so recommended she have a look at this to get inspiration.
Well done to all of you :T0 -

I knew you were of the female persuasion when I read YOUR post!
I hope your friend is encouraged by some of what's on here and sees that she's not alone and if she wants support she will get it. I have discovered that people offer to help because they want to help.
I think there's a need for a website for people who've been conned. Any takers? It would probably get a grant and there will, sadly, always be an audience for it.

I read the start of your thread ages ago when you first started it and was touched by just how bad a situation you were in, my heart went out to you. (Yes, I admit it I was a lurker)...today I read on another thread about a site user who was getting help from DIY SoS, and followed the links only to discover that it was you
... This is bloody brilliant news. I am really pleased for you, and having read a few of your more recent (and incredibly amusing) posts I have to agree with others who say that you are a different, more positive, happy and active person now...
Congratulations, I hope this positive change continues for you and will pop in to get updates. It is so lovely when someone actually gets the help they deserve when they need it, and the kindness and generosity of complete strangers has really lifted my heart.
This is without a doubt the best thread on this site, probably the internet. I couldn't be more chuffed for you if I knew ya personally. Bestest best of luck for everything else ... and thank you for sharing your journey with us. You should maybe think of a career in writing, as you have a knack of making a bad situation seem amusing with your spin on the facts.

:T OH Thank God!
Sorry Mike but I'm SO relieved someone has suggested something!
Didn't want to spoil the mood when there's so much to celebrate but can't help feeling more needs to be done!
Best result we could have hoped for in getting a complete home makeover for you Mike but knowing so many other people are going through the same situation as you but less likely to have the same happy ending makes me feel I'd walk away from this story when the job is only half done!
What to do and Where to start?......anyone???PROUD MEMBER OF
