Hey Mike
You now have a ready made alter ego in Lisa whenever you might need her! And you've no idea how often I've jumped to the wrong conclusion (only just found out about RAS there and I got Numpty Monkey wrong too)
That's virtual frienships for you, but the support, encouragement, virtual hob nobs and hugs never change and are invaluable - and have helped keep many of us here sane in our darkest hours when we feel we can't/won't/don't want to speak to the "real" people around us (or when they are the ones we need to offload about).
I'm afraid I can't help on the legality side of things, but I will keeps my eyes and ears open and let you know if I find out anything reliable.
You know we are all here to help and, as with others, if there is anything I can do, or if you need to pm to offload anything you don't want to post, I'm here to lend a empathetic ear (if you can get past my numerous typos)
Take care of you and I hope the medical team around you are giving you all the support you need.Jan10: 28,315.81 Jan11: 18,015.32 Jan12: 7,682.58 Jan13: 2,987.73 Current debt: 1,225.55

Oooh, HobNobs!
You're right, the support feels so good. Some people are really kind and there's a lot of them on here....0 -

It's the one I bought with the proceeds of the sale of my car, and the warranty expired in December.
Isn't that just typical!
When the temperature drops another 2 degrees I'm going to put another jumper on and go to bed.0 -
Yikes. Is it snowing where you are? It's been sunny here (but baltic!).
Typical warranty - sod's law that is! Set up a PO Box, at least that way I can send you some thermals, plenty of woolly hats and hobnobs! Do you prefer the normal or chocolate hobnobs?I'm an original hobnob girl myself.

Most people who commented said I SHOULD write to his wife. I'me sending this today. I'm grateful for all the suggestions on how to write it. I'd hope she will be uncomfortable being a party to this matter and encourage him to settle up. If he doesn't, she is up to her neck in it for various reasons, not least because she allowed her account to be used to avoid tax.
Dear Mrs. ******
WITHOUT PREJUDICE
I feel you cannot be aware that your husband has owed me £22,050 since July 2008. He has admitted this in court and has been given opportunities to repay it in instalments, which he has rejected.
Horsham County Court issued a final charging order against him in January. This means I will get the money back, with interest, when you sell your house, remortgage it or move. Outside the courtroom he promised he'd get a loan for all the money and give me an interim payment.
When I employed **** to renovate my house he demanded £20,000 in advance which was paid into your personal bank account. He made more demands for cash advances so he could order materials. I paid these because I had been told he was a decent and honest person. Thereafter, he left the site for good, saying that he would lose money on the job, and leaving the house without even a roof, despite knowing that I had nowhere else to live.
I have been attempting to recover this money from him and now have serious health problems and am unable to work and am living on £50 a week incapacity benefit.
There is a single tap upstairs for cooking and washing, and electricity comes through four extension leads from the garage. The house is cold and damp and impossible to heat.
I don’t have enough money for petrol and food to have my teenage sons stay with me every weekend, and there is no prospect of finishing the work needed to make the house habitable until he repays the money he took from me as my savings went on putting right what he had done.
If you agree that his continued and indefensible refusal to repay me is callous and dishonest I hope you will encourage him to repay me immediately. I have now applied to the court for an Order that if the debt remains unpaid, your home will be sold.
If you wish to speak to me about this my telephone number is above. I should also tell you that I have had a number of calls from your local newspapers and radio stations.
Yours etc0
