  • Nothing I can add that is going to be helpful I'm afraid, but I just wanted to add my support and that builder is a first class tosspot who deserves whatever he gets! I hope things start to go your way soon, keep your chin up, you sound like a real fighter and hopefully it won't be too long before you're in your dream home :)

    Hi Lisa

I've just written a really long reply and the damn computer crashed bah!

The gist of it was: get help with your benefit appeal, either from your local council's welfare rights officer(s) or from the local Citizen's Advice Bureau. Medical appeals can be difficult to fight and you would be better with help from them. Please believe me on this!

The other thing was that if you pm me where you live, I would be happy to do an internet search for you to find out if there are any voluntary organisations/church orgs that can help you out. Of course I won't be offended if you don't want to pm me.

I just hope things turn out for you. Take care.

  • Hi Lisa, I am in a similar predicament to you at the moment, and I wish you well with your campaign against this rogue builder.

At the moment I haven't the courage to 'come out' about mine.

    Cheers, HG
  • Hi Lisa,

I'm more a lurker in here, and always feel weird about posting as I'm unable to help.
But I didn't want to read and run without at least showing some support.

I do hope you get your situation sorted soon, and look forward to the day you come back with the great news that you're back on your feet, happy and in a finished home. I will be expecting the invite to the party when it happens though. :)

For the time being, if you decide that you would like help (never be too proud to ask...people are generous, even if it is just a little), I'm sure everyone here, me included, would do what we can.

Take care of yourself, and keep smiling. Karma's a b**ch - he'll find that out, and you'll get stronger when you start seeing results.
    Don't give up!!!

Supportive messages are really appreciated. Thanks to everyone.

Incidentally, this MSE account was a girlfriend's and I kept it for looking things up but rarely posted. I didn't think for a moment that so many people would read it let alone reply. I have never pretended to be her or anyone else and everything I have said is true! I just feel a bit weird and deceitful not using my name, which is Mike. Sorry for any confusion.

    Hi Mike,
I've been popping in to see if you're okay - this seems like as good a time as any to say I wish you all the very best :)
From a few bits you've said about your location I know I'm not going to be within reach to offer you practical help but my DIY skills being what they are, I would be more likely to give you a good laugh. Instead I shall offer you a virtual cuppa and say bear with me while I get my head round your 'new' identity! My name isn't Miggy any more than yours is Lisa - but then, either there are some highly unusual people around or most of us have pseudonyms :D

    Hi Mike/Lisa

To be honest, I feel a bit taken aback - I thought I was reading a thread about a woman, and now it turns out you are a man. I know you didn't intend to mislead anyone, but if it was me I'd contact MSE and change your username to something more neutral. Otherwise people are going to feel they've been taken for a ride.
  • Mike...
Despite the change in name - the well wishes remain!
Perhaps changing the user name would be a great idea - but getting you back to normality is a bit more important. Man/Woman or other - you still shouldn't be in this situation.

    Why would it matter?

Best of luck with everything Mike, I have no further advice to add to the excellent advice you've already received but I hope this resolves itself in your favour sooner rather than later.
