Poor Sarah
I hope you're feeling ready to emerge blinking into the sunshine.
Thanks all for good wishes. The meal out with my wonderful sons was excellent.
The restaurant has been taken over by younger people and painted up but the food's the same (same chef?) and we did it large.
Then all back to mine for some sherbets and watched C$SH which was a bit weird. Feeling abit MSGd and dehydrated this morning but I'll keep pouring coffee on the situation.
They'll be going home after lunch and I'll get the usual Sunday night mongs, but we will have had the weekend we wanted. Excellent.
The dogs are back on Wednesday for three weeks (gulp) but it helps a friend out and it's a reason to go out of the cave and see the sea and have a walk. Won't see the boys until Easter weekend so can expect to be a bit lonely for the next two weeks.
Is it better to be a bit lonely and have the option of seeking out friends, or to be stuck with someone who's a pain in the arss but who provides company and structure to life? As The Feeling sang: "At least they're not lonely..."
Have a lovely day, peeps.

Definitely the first bit, without question.
(Although spending your time with someone who provides company and structure to life and isn't a pain in the arss would be pretty good too!)

I'm amazed how many people I know stay in relationships and domestic setups even though the magic went a long time ago, if it was ever there. I confess I did it myself but you don't really notice and the alternatives seem too hideous and difficult to contemplate.
There is often a better time to be had once you've bitten the bullet.
I also know quite a few people who've been through divorce and suchlike who can't believe how much better their lives are now and wouldn't hesitate to do it again.
I offer this in case it makes anyone think about what's making them unhappy.

It's finding out where these people hide that's the problem. They must be out there somewhere and feeling just the same way? I suppose they (we) don't go out enough to meet them. So maybe the internet has a function even after you've tried and given up with match. com and all those wonderful places...
Anyway.
The boys are heading off in a minute and I am preparing for a major comedown! At least we have had a spiffing time and we're all looking forward to doing it again in two weeks' time...

They were so huggy and happy and sad when they went! Lovely! What on earth will I do with the three hours I saved doing the round trip back to theirs?0 -
Hi Mike and everyone!
Sounds like your weekend went really well mate, I'm so pleased for you after the letdowns the last couple of weeks.
Don't get too gloomy when they're gone, Easter will be here before you know it!
Be great if your tv debut was aired while they are staying with you, That's something a bit special!
A few more days and you'll have the dogs to look out for. They'll keep you busy!
Enjoy the quietness for now, while it lasts. With the design work and the dogs, you won't have time to be bored!
As far as the C/Tax banding goes, well I'll go back onto the VOA website on Tuesday and look into things again, my options aren't great at the moment and any chance of re-banding lower is now very unlikely! Swimming pool & ponies?? In another life maybe, more like shed & trampoline! I think the info from the VOA is now only likely to help the neighbours!
(sssh!..I'll only tell the neighbours I like )
Must get ready, supposed to be meeting OH at the local!
Enjoy what's left of the weekend everyone, catch up again soon!:)PROUD MEMBER OF

Hi SouthernBellE
Council tax rebanding is a joke. I tried it at my old house as my neighbours were all Band D and I was Band F. I applied for rebanding, a man turned up in a car, glanced at my house and drove off again. I was later told that he was the 'surveyor' and had revalued my house in that 20 second visit!
The upshot was that I was Band F because I had a garage and none of the neighbours had one. That apparently accounted for the difference of 2 bands and nearly £1000. I was told that I had no right to appeal so I did what any sensible person would do.
I moved!
Good luck!

I've searched high and low and can only find annoying men so have given up and resigned myself to the fact that before too long I'll start wearing a purple hat, have a houseful of cats and start collecting carrier bags like a mad old woman.
As for Internet dating...no, no, no, no, no.....lisawaters wrote: »Anyway.

It's lovely that you've had a fab weekend. It's a bit like when my youngest comes home from uni, which she has done this weekend. We make the most of the time that she's here and have spent the weekend eating chocolate and watching 'Top Gun' and other naff 80s films.

It's the purple hat that's worrying you, isn't it?

Please don't even joke about it, Mike! I already have 2 cats and when I looked in the understairs cupboard earlier, a load of carrier bags fell out.
There is only the hat left now!

Spent most of the afternoon/evening dipping into this thread. I started feeling horrified and so sorry for Mike (or should I say Lisa!!) but this soon changed to admiring him for not giving up and fighting all the way, and then to giggles as I got to the funny bits, and thinking what an educated person Mike is, and what a great sense of humour him and the others on this thread share. It's so nice to find such a supportive bunch of people in this world today!
Best wishes to all of you for your futures, and I hope you won't mind me dipping into this thread from time to time to keep up with developments (as someone else said its got all the elements of a soap, sadness, despair, humour, serious bits - don't want to miss an episode!)0
