I got asked for ID last night in ASDA to buy a box of Fybogel :rotfl: the checkout flagged it as a restricted item.

Luckily she was joking, but what she also said was that you need ID now for a tube of Bonjela.
Some cough sweets as well, a young relative of mine went to get some and she was only 14 but looks a bit older. They didn't ask her for ID but on the reciept it said cashier confirms over 18 (or similar, can not remember exact wording), they had obviously let it go but it was only a small packet of cough sweets.

The OP says he showed his other ID he had on him at the time but if them form sof ID arent an acceptable form of ID to the cashier then how would they know if it was real or not plus the ID that would be acceptable is on a list of types of ID

Don't they check the electorial register as part of their anti money laundering checks when they do a credit check?

Obviously not. Probably depends on if that happens whether the person who has do to it actually checks or just says yes to everything.

No wonder the banks got in such a mess, giving credit to anyone without doing the most basic ID checks.

Mind you lying about your date of birth on the form.....wouldn't that be fraud?

Yeah but then no more than any other fake ID is, not really the most serious of things.

As far as I can see there is no legal reason why they couldn't accept them, in actual fact the new laws before parliament in the Licensing Act Order 2010 would mean that at least two forms of my ID would be acceptable.
4.—(1) The premises licence holder or club premises certificate holder shall ensure that an age verification policy applies to the premises in relation to the sale or supply of alcohol.
    (2) The policy must require individuals who appear to the responsible person to be under 18 years of age (or such older age as may be specified in the policy) to produce on request, before being served alcohol, identification bearing their photograph, date of birth and a holographic mark.

Anyone can have a credit card without any checks going on.

It works like this, someone who is over 18 gets a credit card and then asks for an additional card for someone else. No checks just send the card out.

So having a credit card, even in your own name, doesn't prove your age.

Fraud confictions carry quite heavy sentances for something not really serious:cool:

Mind you I don't think a shopkeeper or assistant would get much of a sentance for selling Chicken Tonight to a minor.
