Hi Jo_R,
Have you not thought about claiming back all you back charges? It's fairly simple, but does take some time and a little money for court papers, but you get this money back along with all your charges as well.

My answer to bank managers or staff when they start to berate me for running my account in a way that causes charges to occur is to ask them why, when they are making money out of me, are they complaining. Any other business would be delighted to take your money and would treat you as a valued customer. If no-one incurred charges what would happen to bank profits.
They can't answer the question !0 -

They justify the charges by saying that there's a lot of work involved in dealing with a returned item... They don't profit by them... no not at all... really... no profit whatsoever.
Therefore they can't whine about the loss of revenue can they?![strike]-£20,000[/strike] 0!0 -

except that they admit that the system generates them automatically. they can't have it both ways. remember that punitive charges are illegal, regardless of their terms and conditions.0 -
What a shame that the OP wasn't on a Mystery Shop at the time....:rotfl:Debt free date - June 2008 :T :T :T0

black-saturn wrote:Agree with all the above but also whats having a little one and being pregnant got to do with it? Surely that's none of their business? I bet the CSA was one of those "I dont want children" types.
...then you could argue it was discrimation on the grounds of gender , its probably in their small print somewhere...
just found this on their website under Privacy policy " All our employees are personally responsible for maintaining customer confidentiality"
so your argument can be they are breaching their privacy policy, go fot it!__________________0 -
JoR I would consider it an honour if you would let me write to the bank as a 'concerned customer' who learned of / witnessed this event. To behave that way to another person is inexcusable, and not acceptable in any circumstances. That this woman is employed to facillitate your banking only compounds my fury. PM with the details and I'll get typing - and enjoy every word!!On a more positive note - best of luck for the baby - a stupid bank CSA is totaly insignificant in comparison to the well being of you and your child.xxxOfficial Debt Free Wannabe Nerd Club member 095! halifax are crap like thatJo_R wrote:Yep, I should have asked for a private room to discuss things and normally would have asked for this. The reason I didn't was because I wanted to go in, get it sorted and go again. I realised from the moment she checked the computer and told me that there was "an awful lot of charges on there, really quite a lot" that I was facing a lecture and really all I could think about was trying not to cry, that I knew perfectly well I need to be in control of my finances and needed to sort my account out and didn't need to be told it. I felt like a little child and all my assertiveness went out of the window. I mean, I cry at watching children's tv with DD at the moment so what hope do I have?!
It was the Halifax by the way...
there was this one woman at my local branch that had a face like a smacked !!!!!! and when i'd go to the counter to pay my credit card i'd always get this 'humph' as if me and all the other customers were such an inconvieniace to her.
i left halifax for TSB over a year ago and havnt had any problems *touch wood* yet0 -
