cheers pawpuss.
Had a call from my solicitor at 0952hrs this morning to let me know that the funds had been sent to the developers. Just called the developers now and they have confirmed receipt and therefore completion!
YAY! Finally!!
Going to pick the keys up tomorrow I think.
Thanks again for everyone's help and advice on this thread (and other threads), it really has been invaluable!
I'll probably have more questions yet though!0 -
Oh wow UKmonkey, so glad to hear that someone here is having some luck! Reading about your progress really gives me hope that one day I too will be able to write the magic line "Going to pick up the keys tomorrow"
We seem to be moving forward very slowly. Our solicitor and broker have received copies of our mortgage offer, but our copy seems to have got lost in the post, as I haven't seen a copy of it yet. However solicitor and broker were happy with the offer and solicitor can now start working on completing the sale. Apparently the rest of the chain are also ready to go, so should be in our new home before X-mas, I hope.
Had to give our landlord our 2 months notice yesterday, as they demanded that we sign another 6 months contract or hand in our notice, didn't really leave us many options and they refused to be flexible. So we'll be homeless in two months time if for some reason we don't get to move before then:eek: .0 -
Congratulations on finally completing ukmonkey
A word to the wise, unless you're very lucky you'll still find the odd snag so don't hesitate to call them back until things are finished off properly and in all the chaos of moving, remember to keep the NHBC and all appliance, double-glazing, heating guarantees safe - otherwise you're bound to need them
Not that I've got a jaded view of developers or anything but in the first few days/weeks in our newbuild property we found:
- oven not connected up, no hot dinner first night (someone must have "forgot")
- boiler packed up first weekend (printed circuit board problem, quickly sorted but no hot water first weekend)
- bath overflow not connected up, water just running under bath (not realised till a tell-tale damp patch appeared on the ceiling underneath...)
- some overflows not even fitted (sheepish plumber sent back to make good)
- damp wall behind toilet (guess whose fault... had to be knocked out and rebuilt)
The trouble with moving into a brand new house is that nothing's been run in, a bit like a new car. Why does it also carry a price premium, I ask myself???:T:j :TMFiT-T2 No.120|Challenge started 12.12.09|MFD 12.12.12 :j:T:j0 -
Well, what a weekend!
Picked the keys up, found a 3 fault (inside one of the drawers, the bottom bit is chipped in one plce, the flap on the boiler that hides the controls doesn't stay closed, and there's a crack in the bathroom door, on the edge where the lock fitment is.) These will be emailed tomorrow as she said that some things need to be reported within 72 hours.
Been doing a LOT of shopping this weekend.
Had a TV arial guy (I cannot beleive that they don't fit TV arials on new houses as they're building them, but alas, everyone I've spoken to who has bought a new house said it didn't have an arial fitted!) come out on Saturday morning to come and have a look and quote uds etc. He's coming on Tue to fit the arial and the points.
Went and bought various "small" things this weekend, such as light fittings, damp asorbers, a coffee table, lamps, garden hose (to water the newly laid turf) etc etc etc.
We've been to order our carpets today, they're fitting them next Saturday, someone is coming to measure up for a fitted bedroom tomorrow evening.
It's all go!
I can't beleive its finally ours! (well, it isn't OURS for a LOT of years yet, but you get my drift I'm sure!).
Now to chill out for a bit before I hit the sack!
Thanks again for everyone's help and advice. I'm sure I'll be back for more soon!0
