Hi Ukmonkey,
Sorry to hear that it's taken you so long to hear back re. your mortgage, but am a bit relieved as well to find someone who has gone through the same with RBS! Me and my husband applied for our mortgage with the same lender four weeks ago and we're still waiting...we've had the mortgage agreed to in principal, but awaiting for the final decision from the underwriter. Our application was passed on to the underwriter a week ago and still they are working on it! We have a broker who keeps assuring us that RBS are one of the slowest lenders and that this is perfectly normal, we should have a decision by the end of this week...however this is now week three when we have heard the same line:mad: ! We are extremely frustrated, as the whole chain is now waiting for us and obviously we can't do anything until we know whether we get the mortgage or not! Also our landlord is pestering us, wants to know if we are signing a new rental agreement or not.
I don't know how any lender can justify taking over four weeks to process a mortgage application, especially since ours should be relatively straight forward and we already had the mortgage agreement in principle.
Sorry for this rant in your thread, what I actually wanted to know was how long did it take RBS to give you the mortgage decision from the day you sent your application in?
Good luck with the house move, hope all goes well from now on:T !0 -
If you read pages 5 and 6 of this thread you will be able to see the answer there, as I've been keeping this thread as a running commentary of my progress.
I think it was a little over a month, maybe 6 weeks.
Hope you get sorted out, but I wouldn't hold much breath for the end of this week (I do hope I'm proven wrong though!)...
Good luck!0 -
New offer received, waiting for broker to confirm ok to sign, but it all looks correct to me!
Going to solicitor's this afternoon to sign, but my g/f can't get time off, so I'm going on my own to listen to what they need to tell me, I'm going to sign my bits of the paperwork, and then take the paperwork home for the g/f to sign, then I'm going to drop it in at the sol's tomorrow (friday) morning on my way to work.

Great news, I'm pleased for you! And glad to hear that there is actually someone at RBS who is doing some work!
Our broker was in touch with RBS again this morning and apparently our application will be assessed today for final sign off and we should know by tomorrow....yeah right, was that a pig that just flew past?
I have a bet going with my husband regarding what excuse we'll hear tomorrow as to why they haven't processed our application yet. My bet is that they will say the computer systems are down, that's their usual Friday excuse.
Really hope that anyone else reading this who is considering applying for a mortgage with RBS will only do it if they are prepared to wait around 6 weeks for a decision! And don't believe it if your broker says that they usually take 2 weeks.0 -
We've now exchanged (had an email from my Solicitor at 1042hrs today).0

Congrats UKmonkey!
Miracles do happen, we did indeed get our mortgage offer from RBS today! Tried to contact my broker all morning and couldn't get through, had given up hope and was gobsmacked when the phone rang at 5:30pm and our broker told me that he's got a call from the lender and the application had gone through the final signoff and the mortgage has been accepted! Was mentally preparing myself for another couple weeks wait!
Hopefully we'll soon exchange, we're hoping to complete by mid-November.0 -
COMPLETION TOMORROW! OH YES! :-)
Well, went for the inspection on Monday, a bit of a waste of time really as we didn't talk about or look at anything that I'd not already! It was good to meet the site manager and have a chat with him though.
Garden was apparently turfed on Tuesday, not seen it yet, might pop up tomorrow evening, but we're going out so probably will go and collect keys and stuff on Saturday.
We'll not be moving in until mid/late October, we need to carpet and get furniture putup etc.0
