Hi, I'm not really sure about Cambuslang as I'm not familiar with the area. Have you had a look at this website? http://www.scottishaccommodationindex.com/glasgowthirdpage.php

I know Admirals Gate and it's served well by public transport; Blackfriars is also in the city centre (Merchant City) and is quite cheap.

Because we don't drive we wanted somewhere safe to walk about, somewhere wehere there were bus and train links to Glasgow+Edinburgh, no more than £350 but clean and able to sleep 5. I thought this would be a good base.
  • i live in Cambuslang and i have to admit i've never thought of anyone staying there to go on holiday. Its easy enough to get a bus into the city centre but during rush hour you can double the length of time the bus takes to get in and out of the city. There is the train station which will be alot quicker.

Not alot to do in Cambuslang. There is the main street with a handful of shops and thats it really. Cambuslang was an old town and has some really old and large houses just up from the main street. Those streets are faily nice to walk about but it wouldnt take you long. The rest of it isnt particularly nice.

TBH it would really be more of a base with you spending all of your time in glasgow, edinburgh etc.
  • Thing is I can't find any accommodation in Glasgow that will suit us - I need it to be around £350, sleeps 5 - can't get that in Glasgow City and we fly into Glasgow Airport late Friday (arrive 9:30pm) so it would be difficult to get to Edinburgh. If we were based in Edinburgh it would cost a lot by taxi (there are 5 of us, regular cab will not take us). Also, if we had 3 nights in say Glasgow and 4 in Edinburgh the price shoots up (they charge more per night if it's less that 7 nights).

At least I have a while to sort it! lol

What about going in the other direction and going to Ayrshire. Lots of tourist accommodation and has good train links. Is about an hour by train from Glasgow but you can get a cheap family ticket called a daytripper ticket check on
    http://www.spt.co.uk/tickets/daytripper.aspx.

Glasgow airport is fairly near Paisley and the Ayrshire trains go through there. Think there is a bus link between the airport and Paisley.

Have you checked visit scotland for accommodation. We booked through there and are reasonably priced, think they tell the providers what they can charge.
  • actually that could be a good idea. Ok the weather might not be great but taking the kids to a seaside town might have more of a holiday feel about it. It also means you can get the train into glasgow very easily.

Ayr is a fairly big town. Troon is smaller but quite nice to walk around.
  • Ayr is 36 miles from Glasgow Airport - so do-able. Taxi for 5 unless we can get a bus there at 9:30pm Friday night.
