the noise has stopped on mine too but i have an ice build up. going to get the kit through the post soon and then tackle ice and fixing at once. might be the calm before the storm ie total breakdown. sooner sorted the better i think

Had mine done a couple of years ago now (Samsung contacted me) and again for a check up (again, Samsung contacted me). Took him about 30-40 minutes the first time - just moved some stuff out and into a cool bag while he did his work. No problem really...

Reading through some of the previous posts, it looks like some have had problems with Samsung but I can honestly say that they were no trouble at all for me - they contacted me (twice), quick response, no fuss work and no problems since.

Hope you all get sorted out x"

Thanks. That all sounds very straight-forward. I wasn't sure if he'd need to move the unit out to access the back.

Sorry for the delay in the update. The guy game on June 10th (an all-day appt, which was later confirmed as 1-5pm, and then he came at 4.10pm) and he didn't use a cool bag, just asked me to get something to put the stuff in (I have a couple of laundry baskets).

In the end, he found no fault, saying that the door just sometimes doesn't close fully but the unit's sensor thinks that it has. He didn't seem to think much of the unit's build :(

He's fitted a 'fuse block' which is apparently a safety thing that has to be done to them all now when there's a call-out if they don't have it already, but overall that was that. Rather a complete waste of time :(

samsung engineer now doing ALL replacements on parts and fuse. completely overhauling cooling system (just like the kit stuff)
apparently, the fuse is essential but the cooling is a goodwill gesture.
my appliance is well out of warranty but its still being sorted for free so obviously i am very happy with samsung

Used the homevisit link that was posted in this thread to check if my fridge needs a home visit and, lo and behold, it does!!! :) Registered a request on the Samsung website and they should be calling back within 14 days. Has anyone any experience of booking a call out this way and how long did they take to book an appointment? Fridge not cooling at the top at the moment, bottom two shelves seem fine so hoping it doesn't pack up completely before it's fixed!

  • I have a RSH1DBBP.
24 month guarentee ran out on 9th June 2011.
Last week it started with the noise and the icing up on the left hand side.
I looked on the net for help and found this thread. I was glad I did!
Rang Samsung on 01932-454358 at 10 o'clock yesterday. Hardly had to explain and they promised a call back within 24hrs by an engineer to arrange a free repair. They called later that afternoon, to arrange to come out today, between noon and 3pm.
It is now 2.30pm and we are all sorted. New parts supplied and fitted. Calling card left if I have any problems.
Just over 24hrs from call to clear. All free. Excellent response.

Update on the fridge situation. Phoned Samsung yesterday and they have confirmed that the fridge needs attention and it's going to be done free of charge! Waiting for the call from the engineer today to book a visit. Couldn't have done it without this thread. Many thanks to all who have contributed.

I had the same problem last summer and an engineer came out to 'fix it'. He ended up putting a screw throught the gas pipe which I didn't notice foe a couple of days. Then after two days the freezer had stopped working, then the fridge. I contacted Samsung who sent an engineer who told me that the unit was irrepairable. When I complained that the engineer had done this they didn't want to know. I had an independent report done. Contacted Samsung again and quoted the Sales of Goods Act. After a few weeks they agreed that the original fault had been known about since 2006 and that they had stopped selling after that date. They obviously had hoped that all the machines would last longer than the warranty. Numerous people have sued them in the USA. Anyway ater not giving up I finally got my money back (less a % for it's age), compensation for the loss of all food, compensation for all my time sorting out, telephone calls, letters and they paid for the independent report. I bought a new fridge freezer, not a Samsung, and without the water dispenser. No problems yet! Hope this helps.

    HI Tigermaid,

No gas pipes near to the fridge so should be OK (I take it that's what you meant and not a pipe in the fridge itself!). Let's hope the fridge continues to work after it's been repaired.
