'American Style' Samsung Fridge Freezer (merged threads)

Did all that numerous times but if you read my previous quotes you will see that while all that is happening the ice buildup puts pressure on the compressor and eventually it will stop working completely. Samsung don't cover this on extended warranty.0

Just thought I'd put my two pence worth in.
I had the same problem as everyone else on the thread. Started weeks ago with the helicopter sound, then loss of temperature over this weekend and ice build up.
Looked on the internet and found this valuable thread!
Rang 01932455000 yesterday at 9:00am. Explained the problem. Quoted BBC Watchdog and "design fault" as recommended on this thread.
I was told I would receive a call from an engineer to come and replace the parts. Engineer rang last night, was here by 10:30 this morning and replaced the whole inside back panel. Fridge is now running like a dream. Engineer said noise or problem wont return. Very happy customer here!
(And BTW, I'm out of warranty! They did it all for free!!!! They need to fix it because it's a design fault and fridges have been known to cause fires so if it happens with their fridge they're in the .......)
Would encourage me to buy Samsung products again as their after care service is great.0 -
we have the identical problem with RSH1NHSW, bought in 2008.
we have a fridge-freezer policy with Domestic & General, but it doesn't include food spoilage.
would it be better to call them out, or call Samsung?
Horrified to hear there's been a serious safety issue and we weren't aware. The f-f was making a noise about 2 weeks ago then stopped, and I've been wondering if the fridge temp was correct, but kept looking at the screen and thinking it must be right when it said 1 degree and I must be wrong :-( I've tested the food on different shelves with meat probe and the milk is 8.7 degrees and yog 14 degrees.0 -

Call Samsung as they know the problem and how to fix it.0 -
what about the fire risk now the fridge has stopped working?
the freezer is still working and full, so it wd all be wasted if I switch off.
husband called Domestic + General this afternoon and was told ring engineers and given a code no to quote. Surely they'd know how to fix the fridge, or if not, replace it?0 -

Its the whole inside back panel that needs replacing. The Samsung engineers have them with them. The other engineers would probably need to order them and god only knows how long that will take. I used loads of freezer baggy things and stuffed all my perishables in the bottom veg drawer and froze what I could as freezer was still working.
NE way, up to you. Ringing Samsung worked a treat for me.0 -
thanks mysterious girl. we've now called Samsung who have agreed to visit to do the repair of 6 parts free. I found the call centre less than gracious, they spent a long time asking for all my contact details before saying they'd do anything, and only came out with it when I got pushy.
I'm awaiting the callback to book appt.
Domestic + General say our policy doesn't include food spoilage, which is rather galling as it's a substantial loss of money and effort. Huge nuisance.
I've dug out the cold box and frozen the chiller blocks so hopefully can keep some milk cool.0 -
Been phoning engineers to fix my Samsung american style fridge freezer with ridiculass amounts wanted to fix it. After reading information on forums about the same problem of the noises that build up after my husband has had the back panel of and unblocked the ice in the back to find out after 5 days later every week f the past 2 mnths(hassle) the noise is there again. so pleased i have read through this forum today as i have phoned 01932455000 as quoted thankyou and i am waiting for an engineer to ring back in the next 24hrs. app will be fixed with no charge. thank the lord. :T0

Have just defrosted mine for 24 hrs and will be leaving it another twelve before plugging it in again. Havent had the issue with the fan etc yet but the fridge has stopped cooling and there is ice build up in the bottom right hand side. Freezer, water dispenser and ice maker are all working fine. If it still isnt working properly by Sunday, I'll be calling them out as ours is only 18 months old. Very useful thread people, thanks and will keep you posted0
