Aspartame gives me headaches, so I can't have it.

Bought a bottle of regular Fanta the other day (haven't had it for years!! - and not the diet stuff), and on the front it said no artifical colours of flavourings, which I took to mean no sweetners either.

Ohps. WRONG. full of sweetner, apparently because their customers want less suger. Er... drink the diet version??
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

Yup , what ISN'T written is as powerful as what is written.

If it said No Artificial sweeteners or colours, then it probably would contain artificial flavours (iyswim)

I always check the label and put the thing back if it includes any artificial sweeteners (aspartame - yeeech).
The worst offender was one labelled "Traditional Lemonade" - how the @*&$! can a traditional drink have artificial sweetener?
Tesco & Sainsburys own brand lemonades are OK AFAIK.
Sainsbury's Tonic Water is the only one I can find without artificials too.

I had a bottle of Fanta for the first time in years last month, only had a few mouthfulls then dropped it back in my handbag. Twenty minutes later the pains started. When I checked the Fanta label it had Aspartame listed. I'm sure it didn't have before :(

I have to be really careful with chewing gum and mints too. If anyone here is allergic to Asprin, then it's a very similar pain.

Ahh well, Water is keeping me healthier lol
Yep - I avoid Fanta and don't use chewing gum.

M&S Tonic water is also artificial sweetener free.

On the Fanta note - emailed them saying that the 'No artificial flavours' text was misleading, and saying I would never buy Fanta again unless they used sugar as the sole sweetener etc etc. Got a reply saying most customers prefer the taste with sweeteners, yeah sure, more likely because it is cheaper.

Suffice to say I haven't bought Fanta since.

Sainsburys don't put sweeteners in any of their drinks unless they specifically say "diet" or "sugar free".. which is how it should be.

I'm extra careful now, I thought I pretty much had it all figured out with what I could and couldnt drink, and naively thought that aspartame would only be in the Diet Option. Well thanks Fanta

I had a cappuccino from a sachet my sis in law gave me recently and even that had it in. It's annoying really because I do drink more Pepsi than I should and if I could handle Pepsi Max it would be slightly better for me lol

Thing is fizzy pop should be considered a treat, not a staple.

NOTE: Pepsi Max has aspartame in it: The ingredient in question—acesulfame potassium—is combined with aspartame to provide the beverage's sweetness, whereas some other diet colas are sweetened by aspartame alone.

Lidl's tonic water is also artificial sweetener free, comes in a 6-pack of 500 ml bottles

I absolutely loathe the taste of artificial sweeteners (quite apart from any health issues) & always check the labels even if I've bought the item before

fortunately I'm a water drinker, never liked fizzy drinks/squash even as a child & I only drink soft drinks if they have alcohol in :D

so the ubiquity of aspartame etc isn't too much of a problem for me drinks-wise, it just makes me mad that it's appearing everywhere in products you don't expect it in & products there's really no need for it to be in

EDIT ... don't know if it's been mentioned before, but Tesco & Asda both do a premium lemonade that's artificial sweetener free, Lidl also do a drink very similar to Sprite/7-Up, it's in a 6-pack green 500 ml bottle, no artificials there either

though as this thread had proved, it's always wise to keep checking for any change in formula
