  • Aww, my poor hubby.
I've recently started entering lots of postal comps.

Well this morning hubby signed for this letter whilst I was at work.
I get home and he's all excited saying I've got a letter that he had to sign for and it looked like a winners envelope.

I had to tell him, after reading about this on here so many times, that unfortunately I hadn't won anything.

Poor hubby, and god bless MSE:money:

My husband too got excited when he saw the letter I said I'm glad I have MSE as this is a scam I knew it was too good to be true, they are cunning though using recorded delivery and a freephone number my OH was nearly sucked in but I put him straight thanks MSE
  • I have searched and found out where this timeshare scam came from and it was pigsback I signed up for Get Me a Quiz and it is linked to Getmea Ticket which is where the competitons came from see below email received

Clubseasons have staff constantly trolling internet forums. They register as newbie posters and sing the praises. I am not suggesting that it has happened in this thread but it is a method routinely used. Now, the fact that they need to go to these lengths to counter attack the deluge of poor reviews should tell you something.

I think a poster who signs up and only posts five times, all on the same subject is a bit of a giveaway is it not?

Im almost too embarrassed to admit this in a public forum, but my mum has signed up and is currently on this timeshare with my sister and her child,

I've sent her link after link to negative posts, but Mum thinks that she has done well, at least for the first year.

Final irony, she wants me and my partner to go and spend a week with her in one of these things. (I won't btw).

If there is a good outcome from this situation, I will let you know

To all those people out there who think this is a scam, its not. We received one of these letters a few weeks ago. After numerous phonecalls to them and huge discussions we decided to do it. We paid £250 maintenance fee for this year and have just come back from a weekend break in the Lake District. The accomodation was excellent. We stayed in a 3 bedroom(1 en-suite) cottage equipped with all mod cons. We are also going to Carmarthen in August for 1 week. You tell me where you can stay in this country in very high standard accomodation for 2 holidays(one in the middle of summer) for just £250? Oh and before you ask, I DO NOT work for Clubseasons. I am a housewife and mother of 2! We have decided to only do this for 1 year so by the time January comes we will be forfeiting our membership and thats that but really for the money you pay each year its actually very good value.

    Hi Littleholly,

Did they originally tell you that you had 'won' a free holiday which has turned out to cost you £250? Did you have to sit through any sales pitches before you went, or whilst you were there? So far, you've had 1 weekend for £250. It'd be interesting to hear your views again after you've had your week in Carmarthan (absolutely lovely countryside & beaches round there - have a fab time).

You say, that "for the money you pay each year its actually very good value". Could you tell us how much subsequent years are, how long you have to sign up for and what the total cost over the lifetime of the agreement is?

  • Hi
In the letter they sent they said I had won membership to Clubseasons not a holiday. There have been no sales pitches in letters, over the phone or in the resort where we have just stayed. We checked in and that was it. We paid £250 maintenance for this year reduced from £337(normal price). The maintenance fee is based on the size of accomodation that is required for your family eg: studio: £326, 1 bed: £337, 2 bed: £358 & 3 bed: £378. When we booked our break(in the lakes) we were supposed to be having 4 nights but we could only get 2 because of availability but we did get allocated 3 bedroom accomodation though. When we booked for our August holiday we wanted to go to Cornwall but both of those resorts are fully booked for the summer that is why we are going to Carmarthen. They say if they can't match either of your 3 date choices and resort choices you will get your maintenance fee back for that year. Also if you are unhappy with your holiday you can also claim your money back. They have a no quibble guarantee. After this 1st year the maintenance fee goes upto the normal rate(as above). You can decide to carry on your membership or just forfeit it and thats the end. We will make that decision nearer the time. The membership is until 2069, i'll probably be gone by then anyway! The reason why we think its good value for this year anyway, is that we are getting a weekend and 1 week holiday in peak season is very high standard accomodation for £250. You can't even go to Butlins for 1 week in August for that sort of money.
    Hope thats answered your questions!

Thanks Littleholly, I appreciate your response.

As you can see from other people's posts, however, its very unusual that you didn't have to go along to a presentation before or during your stay.

You also say you won membership but then had to pay £250. Mmm....

You wanted 4 nights in the Lake District but they only had 2 nights available...

You wanted Cornwall but no availability in Aug......

Membership lasts till 2069..... and year 2 is £378 (is that for School Holidays?) - but how much is yr 3, yr 4, yr 5 etc etc... so we can work out the total cost of this win.

"You can just forfeit your membership".....that doesn't seem to be Turbogran's experience or my in-laws.

Let us know how your trip to Carmarthen turns out.

I don't have anymore information to give but we were told on the phone by them that we could forfeit. I said to them 'what if we decide in January that we don't want to continue with this, can we just decide not to pay the maintenance thats due and cancel our membership?', she said 'yes'. Basically we are happy with the situation and the fact we are getting 2 holidays this year for £250. Other people have obviously had different experiences but ours, so far, has been fine. The resort that we have just visited was very busy so they must be happy with it too., and most of them have probably paid the £3750 that we didn't have to. We probably won't continue next year but we'll see.
