Thanks all - I will go to the court next week with those papers once the electoral roll papers arrive.

Sadly littlesaint I'm not in a trade union but recent advice on this board shows lots of numbers I can call if needed - plus the legal line I called around 4 weeks ago was very helpful and they even logged my call so I could refer to it in court if needed etc - I am sure I can call them again.

Off for the weekend, secret trip for Mr EL, back to where his grandad came from (Chesterfield). He hasn't been there in 15 years so it will be a nice break - 5 hours on the train to get there, so y'all think of us tomorrow morning won't you!

    any news????
:p It is better to be thought of as an idiot than to open your mouth and remove all doubt
  • UPDATE: 17/10/06

    Hi all,

I went to the court yesterday to give them the copy of the letter from Lewes showing she's on the electoral role at that address and has been since 1997. I also adjusted the interest due as we hadn't done that on the last form they sent us so the process had halted - which was very frustrating.

Still, it's done now and the system should start flowing again soon.

Now we just wait and see...

  • Thanks for the update, did you have a nice weekend?

  • Yes we had a fab time - Mr EL wasn't expecting it at all and only guessed when we got to St Pancras station. I loved Chesterfield and the fact you have a cheese shop, an egg shop, a butchers, nuts shop and so much more at the market. Wish Brighton had more of that! We got to see his grandfathers grave which was a very special moment for him a he hasn't been up there in 17 years - an amazing church and lovely surroundings too.

Plus I picked up lots of second hand books for the 'Make £1,024 in 12 weeks' Challange - anyone else on here doing that Challange? It's great fun! See info on the Old Style board - or maybe it's the Debt Free Wannabe board. Who knows if I'll make it - for now I'm 'up' in terms of the figures!

I read this thread quite a while ago, and have been wondering how you got on - lost the thread. I hope the evil b***h landlady from hell gets whats coming to her - correction, she will get what's coming to her. I can't understand people like her being so petty over a deposit, and going to the extremes she is to avoid paying it back. I wonder if her friends know what she is like?????????? Hope the local press pick up on the case - I don't know if that's possible. Chances are that she has done it to several others who haven't had the tenacity that you have shown. I hope you have claimed for all your expenses phone calls, etc.
The one good thing that will have come out of this is, you have more strength than you realise, and always know that you can win if you stick at it.
  • Thanks Furndire - it's a long and ongoing process that's for sure! Thanks for coming back and the support - I would never have started this process without everyone's help. So far, the only effort she has made in the last 2 weeks is to ask the letting agents to contact us and ask for our feedback for the amount on each item, and us to come back with what we think is fair. We did not respond, as we don't agree with the majority of the items she put down. She has completely ignored our 3 warning letters to her c/o address, plus she has ignored the court paperwork to her real address. She now also claims to be 'moving' soon - we heard this via the newsagent at our old property.

In my heart of hearts, we MAY owe her around £80 and I'd have been ok with her deducting £120 or even £150.

But close to £700???? No way - no one who left a flat clean and tidy and just LIVED in it should have to lose that kind of deposit.

She has lots of properties = lots of money coming in and she paid for the rennovations herself, she is cutting off her nose to spite her face this way as she won't get the cash from the letting agent (I hope???) and will get a CCJ against her if she carries on like this.

In terms of expenses, there was nowhere on the form for us to add that - only the court fees and the interest - I guess that part must come later?
