Reporting Ebay Seller

If an ebay account holder sells a certain number of items then their account is automatically flagged and they are told that they must register as a business account before they can list more items - thus incurring greater listing fees.
You should leave well alone, why get involved?
I'm not convinced that accounts are flagged, ebay are notoriously blind to activity which is against their own policies. I expect because they won't employ people ( keeping overheads down ) to monitor listings even when reported e.g sale of human body parts. Look at real human skull sales in completed items.
As for "..leave well alone, why get involved?" surely that attitude encourages more problems in wider society?0 -

If someone has large amounts of new stock it's not going to be competition prizes. No-one is that lucky."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

I didnt even check the date the thread was started when I replied it was just top of the ebay thread! Also yes some people are that lucky if you check out the comps board and see what people have won in their signaturesWins so far this year: Mum to be bath set, follow me Domino Dog, Vital baby feeding set, Spiderman goody bag, free pack of Kiplings cakes, £15 love to shop voucher, HTC Desire, Olive oil cooking spray, Original Source Strawberry Shower Gel, Garnier skin care hamper, Marc Jacobs fragrance.0

However, trust me, it's more likely to be a business seller not registering than some other explanation. A lot of people don't realise the rules on trading and if there is a large quantity of stock, then competitions are unlikely to be the source. Plus a lot of very similar items is going to be hard to explain. From your sig, I'd know if you were selling a variety of stuff related to your competition wins. They're also largely going to be "once-offs". But someone with a large library of CDs or a lot of new sealed DVDs or hairbands or flipflops or whatever...then it gets very hard to persuade me that you should not be registered as a business.
Plus, if HMRC think you are a business, if eBay think you are a business - then you have to prove that you're not, rather than they having to prove that you are."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

HMRC are a joke to deal with, Sent me a tax bill for several hundred pounds when my taxable earnings were
less than my tax limit.
Had to ask and explain to them on the phone 3 times, I can earn £5k before tax i earn less so pay no tax right.
Eventually they agreed and i heard nothing from them again.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -

I'm afraid that HMRC are not mind readers so will present a bill if someone does not complete a full tax returns to show there is no liability. Not so much their error but yours but in fairness they do send bills to 'jog' peoples memory about completing a tax return if required.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards.
