Jeez, nice to know we have so many law-abiding citizens on the forum...NOT.

OP, you can also call free:

    Tax Evasion Hotline
    Freephone 0800 788 887 0800 788 887
This Hotline is open 8.00 am to 8.00 pm Monday to Friday, and weekends 8.00 am to 4.00 pm.

Err....sorry what cast iron proof is there bar some flimsy circumstantial evidence.

Getting involved with something that has nothing to do with you (applies to everyone).

HRMC have a big enough budget, let them get on with it. Labour waste enough money anyway.

Gung-ho attitude give some completely innocent folk the stress of a full tax inspection. Way to go bro.

    Anne Frank.
    Didn't take long.

Business sellers who are incorrectly registered are as bad as the expenses scandal, and costing the country more, but since they are not shouted and screamed about daily for months by the red tops they seem to get ignored.

They are also depriving their buyers of rights that are law.
    (Distance selling reulations)

They are taking advantage of a ebay promotion, and next time the fees go up they'll be the first ones to moan, but they have been costing all of us for months with their free listings.

They clog up the listings so make it harder for buyers to find the genuine, rule abiding sellers.

Lots of them are "voucher buyers" so actually benefit cheats.

I know all this because we spend ages reporting the scumbags to ebay, HMRC, benefits and in fact anyone we can get our hands on.
Don't mind legit competition but there is no way we are going to be forced to go back on the dole by cheating lowlifes.
This is my opinion. There are many others like it but this is mine

I am a professional ebay seller. I work hard at my job, I love my job, if you think it's silly that's your problem not mine. :p

If an ebay account holder sells a certain number of items then their account is automatically flagged and they are told that they must register as a business account before they can list more items - thus incurring greater listing fees.

You should leave well alone, why get involved?

Not necessarily, one of my private accounts sells more than my business accounts some weeks (I have a very cluttered house) and I've never been asked to explain myself. There is also a thread on another board on mSE where some private sellers mention have over 4000+ feedback and are still private sellers.

OP, I would report both to ebay and to HMRC, they are costing us money, the more tax other people try to avoid the higher the bills for the rest of us who genuinely report.

If the seller is genuinely a private seller then there is no harm at all in reporting them is there?

If they are falsely claiming to be a private seller when they are not then they deserve to be caught.

It's not a case of a 'few quid on the side'. A Rough calculation on their sales for this evening alone shows they have made approx £250, plus they are not registered as a business so at a guess they are also not registered for tax. Im just curious as to what the procedure is.

Did they "make" £250, or sold items to the value of £250? Now im not condoning tax evasion but its the scale of the evasion that is what i am more worried about, there is a big difference between somebody making a few quid on the side, and somebody earning thosands untaxed.

Without certain information, you could be wrongly tarring somebody.

What is his feedback, and spread over how long?
Is he selling £250 worth everyday, or was it because sunday is a better day to end auctions?
    How much profit per item?

Etc Etc, without that information, i think it would be impossible to judge somebody impartially.
Thankyou Sir Alex for 26 years

So no harm them in reporting a if this was a one off private seller he can easily explain himself to HMRC.

How do you know they dont pay tax? By reporting them you could turn theirt whole life upside down, get them into loads of debt etc, also they may not be making a profit (maybe a hobby) so for your jealousy you could be doing them a huge favour as they could get tax rebates

If by jealousy you mean I'm peeved that I pay tax on my ebay earnings and they apparently don't then yes i'm guilty of jealousy.

They have a feedback of over 6,000 [all positive i must add] and list the same items every day making a similar amount each day. The items they sell are not things they have lying around and they are definitley operating as a business but not declaring that to ebay thus they are not innocent.

Soolin, TurkishDelight, Strapped; thanks for the advice.
