Reporting Ebay Seller

Is it possible to contact HMRC to report a bulk seller on Ebay who you believe not to be registering for tax? This person sells huge amounts of items that are obviously bought to sell, i'm just wondering if their is a simple process to contact HMRC about this or whether it's case of a letter/phone call to them?

  • I'm curious what has made you think they are not registered with HRMC regarding tax. Seems a slightly odd thing to think whne buying on ebay (not having a go just wondering).
As for contacting them sorry no idea :(
  • How do you think they are not VAT registered?? Just because they sell large amounts. Sorry im not sure what that has to do with anything.
  • Personally i couldnt care if somebody is making a few quid on the side, after taking the time and effort to research, buy, list, sell and post, i would be more concerned over the many more who are prepared to sit on their backsides and expect those of us who do work and pay taxes to provide for them, just my personal opinion.

It's not a case of a 'few quid on the side'. A Rough calculation on their sales for this evening alone shows they have made approx £250, plus they are not registered as a business so at a guess they are also not registered for tax. Im just curious as to what the procedure is.

If an ebay account holder sells a certain number of items then their account is automatically flagged and they are told that they must register as a business account before they can list more items - thus incurring greater listing fees.

You should leave well alone, why get involved?

Because I pay tax on the items I sell, it grates on me when people so blatantly get away with it.

How do you know they dont pay tax? By reporting them you could turn theirt whole life upside down, get them into loads of debt etc, also they may not be making a profit (maybe a hobby) so for your jealousy you could be doing them a huge favour as they could get tax rebates
