I get what you're saying Mrspottydog my point is though that it's generalisations like that that get the backs up of people that were supporting your arguements and makes you sound as bad as others (admittedly not someone who seems to find sport in endagering lives). That's all I'm saying :)

I appreciate that but untill you've actually been in the situation with a complete prat driving that close to you trying deliberately to scare the life out of an innocent animal it's hard for you to apprectiate how strong some people's feelings can be on this subject. I would also like to point out that it is people such as Lahey who have chosen to move to the countryside and then endanger most of its residents by driving like idiotd who normally drive cars such as (but not specifically) the Audi A4. I have lived in the countryside my whole life. Horses, sheep, farmers, and yes, even the local hunt have been around far longer than you in your £36,000 car mr lahey- if you don't like it move back to whatever hole you crawled out of.
  • have you ever seen a horse with a valid mot , road tax , insurance ?
if you own a horse you should own land to exercise it or you shouldnt own a horse !
you lot are a pain, horses were never meant to go on tarmac so stick to what your animal is comfortable with and leave the road to the road users !

    rant over (for now )

Hmmmm most horses have public liability insurance, a much higher proportion than say.......cyclists. And to be honest, probably just as high a proportion as motorists as numbers of uninsured motorists are going through the roof.

Horses aren't obliged to pay road tax, the same as pedestrians, cyclists, mobility vehicles, classic cars and very low emmission vehicles. As horses are non polluting this is in line with current government policy. Most horse owners pay road tax on their car and often on their lorry too.

Horses generally have an MoT or vet check regularly. Again they are better maintained than many cycles using the roads, and a good many cars - how many do you see every day with broken brake lights.......

Horse riders are entitled to use the road along with all other subjects of this democratic nation!

If you want horse riders to exercise their horses off the public road, I'm sure that they will happily do so as long as the rest of the population agree to only exercise their animals and children on their own private property, and to only engage in their hobbies or cycling and jogging on their own private property. Horse riders have as much right to use public rights of way as dog walkers, cyclists, joggers, and mothers with pushchairs.

Honestly I've never heard such a pathetic and ill thought out rant.....

Im touched by all the responses :p

Ill try and address those i remember because after all this is a forum and that's the general way things happen.

    - I joined this forum to give advice. It is naive to think that everyone who joins a money saving forum must have money problems.
    - What is the problem with Audi's - Seriously? I have a beautiful car and next year when i trade it in i'll be getting another.
    - My life is anything but boring. Believe me. If you are that interested search back some of my previous posts and you will see why.
    - What is with the insults? A person personally insults another either in jest or when their argument is so feeble that insulting them is their only option.
    - For all those riders who do ride one ride and say thanks then you are great, i always pass wide and slow, the same as if it is a young rider.
    - Just to clear up it is horse riders who think they own the road i can't stand, not those who just get on with it and accept that they are posing a road hazard riding two wide. Going by the majority of attitudes on here it seems that you horse riders resent vehicles being on the road.
    - Voiceofreason - Get over it, i bet you dream about my bald tyre.
    - If you know your horse to be timid then you are neglecting the horse, yourself and every other road user by taking it on the road, if an accident did ever occur i can tell you now in court you would be held responsible, so dont come here expecting everyone to get out their cars and push them slowly past. If it isn't good for the road then keep it off the road.
    - Horse in central London, of course they pass slowly, traffic never gets above a few mph anyway.
    - No one is deliberately endangering a horse riders life, it is all about courtesy, you have courtesy for road users and in return you will find they have courtesy for you.
    - Can we please stop all these new accounts in an effort by the horse riders to bolster their support.
    - As for caring about my emissions - I couldn't care less if i tried, man made global warming is a myth/con :)

    Thanks.

Ok... starting to very much lose patience with your complete arrogance and pig-headedness. You will never win this argument due to the fact that horses are legally allowed on the road. You are NOT legally allowed to drive at them at high speed passing as close to them as physically possible. Having read some of your posts on previous subjects you sound like a fairly intelligent man, which is not a quality you are displaying here. My guess is that you are just in this for a wind-up. Anyone who loves a car as much as you profess to love yours would not endanger it by driving wrecklessly. Noone (as far as I can tell) has a problem with Audis, unless they are driven by someone like you. As for all your comments regarding horses and when they should be on the road, you have plainly shown your complete ignorance on the subject. The best person to judge when a horse should be allowed on the road is its rider.

I have no problem with horses being on the road, and always pass wide and slow. We live in a rural area so it is quite common to see them. I do get annoyed when they walk on footpaths though, not really because of the walking but the lovely 'presents' they often leave behind, and which are not always easy to manouvre a buggy round!
Horse owners should have to clean up after their horses in the same way dog owners do, if they use a footpath!

Encouragement always works better than judgement.

  • Hmmmm seems like a slight change of tack.....

maybe someone realises that they have been sounding like a c**k

Mr Lahey it was you who admitted to endangering lives by driving fast and close, yet now you seem to deny it.

And as a lawyer I can tell you that it is you who wouldn't have a leg to stand on if you were involved in an accident with a horse. Most of the time the driver is held liable, especially if he was in contravention of the highway code. By passing a horse at 70mph you are almost certainly guilty of dangerous driving, and if the rider you hit died (or a passenger in your car - who is likely to be injured when a ton of horse goes through the windscreen) then it would be a charge of death by dangerous driving - which is homicide.

Think on Mr Lahey, and take a long hard look in the mirror and ask yourself if you could live with the death of a human on your conscious.

No, no, no - what I resent is d*ckheads like you being on the road, with your bald tyres and "don't give a f*ck" attitude.

You're more dangerous than any skittish horse......

Im telling you mate, I drive the same route every day and when they see me coming they get out of the way, because if they don't they are getting an Audi A4 within an inch of them at 60mph.

The result of years of delays and frustration.
