I live in a very horsey area, as much as I like horses it really annoys me when I have to walk or drive through the mess left by them.
Responsible dog owners clean up their dogs business, so why not horse owners?2012

apparently they dont have to , they are above the law. but i am going to question this with my local council as it is , in effect , littering
and also thinking about it probably in contravention to the road traffic act , if its not cleaned up it causes a hazard to other road userswe all have bad days , some more than others ..................0 -
Clive,
Horses were using unpaved roads made for horses before cars, they were not using paved roads made for cars before cars.
Sure they did not,i mean dont you remember the days when the busses or trams were pulled by horses,or draymen delivering there stock by horses, and the milkman, and the hansom cabs, and the firetrucks, and the general tradesmen.......all pulled by horses on roads before the invention of the combustion engine.Forum spellcheckers are the pitts.0 -
you know what really pees me off about this thread? the sheer numbers of twits who claim because they live in country areas believe they are are in right about complaining about animals on the roads!
just because you live in the country (but are really city people who drive 4x4s and wear the appropriate clothing) does not make you locals you know. you wonder why the locals dont like you? because you dont understand the country life! if you did you wouldnt be bleating about horses on the road or cockerels waking you up or the smell of shte when the farmer is manuring! the problem is - you want the country cottage and empty lanes to race about in and a nice cosy country pub serving gourmet meals!!! you have this ideal about the country - but want to apply city values! if thats you - and most of the posters can take it I mean you - stay in the city where you wont have to meet horses on the roads.0 -
I don't mind. The only thing that bothers me is the crap they leave behind. And people moan about dog walkers not picking up :rotfl:
I was walking home the other day and went over a busy flyover which connected with a dual and motorway. There was crap on the path of the flyover and I felt pity for the horses that had to walk there. I can only imagine how terrifying it is having cars/buses/lorries zooming past you at 50mph and above.Wife and mother :jGrocery budget

horse riders ride horses on the roads because there arnt enough bridlepaths. No one rides on the roads for fun,its because we have to use them to acces bridleways ,or because theres no where else to go. Oh, and BTW, we do have insurance."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0

there's no law/ruling for horse muck to be cleared up. It doesn't carry diseases or present a risk to health - and I believe it's the only manure that is safe for pregnant women to handle.
Plus - how exactly would they do it? Right horse has messed in middle of road. Dismount off horse, walk to middle of road waving wildly at speeding driver to wait whilst you clear it up (cos that will happen!). Look round for shovel/wheelbarrow, realise there isn't either to be found in the middle ot the road you are riding down. Meanwhile your horse is getting impatient and spinning round you, a queue of drivers has built up, one is revving his engine and preparing to drive at you. Give it up as a bad job, apologise to drivers. Oh wait - you have to get back on! Trail round to find fence/wall/crane to use to mount your now very impatient and irritated horse. Continue ride. Horse gets excited and poos again. Repeat as needed........
On pavements it's a different matter, but sometimes it can't be avoided. If the horse is frightened as stupid lorry driver/car driver revs/speeds towards them, rather than risking losing your life and your horse, its safer to stand on the pavement whilst they go past. When horses get upset/scared/excited.... they poo0 -

Is that littering or s hitteringThe advice I give on here is based on my many years in the preservation industry. I choose to remain anonymous, I have no desire to get work from anyone. No one can give 100% accurate advice on a forum if I get it wrong you'll get a sincere apology and that's all:D
