what an interesting thread indeed... fascinated by the stories and opinions. my own tale i suppose is about balance, treating oneself where it counts, and disregarding frivolity. I had my DD very young and spent a good few years living on the edge financially whilst i went back to education, and kept a foot on the property ladder. fast forward almost 7 years and a DS later, im in my second home, working, married to a well earning hubby, and whilst i can afford to indulge my weakness for nice makeup, we are frugal as ever. money is saved regularly, in seperate 'pots' for things like our holiday (centerparcs to see santa!) and for xmas. we meal plan every week without fail, and we havent had a single negative comment ever, in fact, when anyone is asking where to get things i usually know where its cheapest, best discounts, codes etc. im actually really proud of being a moneysaver!

I don't really talk much about my OS ways at work though everyone knows I get my clothes from the charity shops. Never had any comments about them but I like the fact that I wear good quality clothes from the likes of M&S and Laura Ashley so thank you to whoever donated them. I might not be in the hippest fashion but at 43 don't really care, my days of trying to impress with my dress sense are long gone, don't think I ever had any to start with!

I cut my own hair, but don't tell anyone that but have had comments on how nice it looks, I learnt how to do it myself from another post on here, it's long and wavy and hangs in lovely layers so thank you to whoever put that info on here.

My husband is still a bit wimpy about being OS but is getting better, I don't care about getting vouchers out so he lets me do it! I'm sure if he didn't have me that he would have slipped back to the old ways of if I have £100 then I need to spend £100. When I first met him he used to get paid in cash weekly and just spent whatever was in his wallet with no thought to the monthly bills that haven't been paid yet.

I squirrel money away in savings accounts ready for when unexpected bill comes in, he knows I do it but I don't tell him how much is in there otherwise he would find something to buy, he knows what he's like so he never asks me how much money we have hidden. He says one of us has to be the adult but it's never gonna be him! :rotfl:

Couple of years one of the chaps I work with was always bragging about what he'd bought, I'd picked up a cheap portable TV for the spare room and he told me how he'd put his "old" 42" flat screen TV in his spare room as he'd fancied a better, bigger TV for his sitting room. I just smiled and said "How nice". I was constantly told every Monday about all the stuff he and his wife had bought and how much stuff the kids had for Christmas etc, I still just sat here and smiled and made some meanless comment such as how nice for you. It never bothered me what he had, I didn't want any of it but it obviously made him feel good to go on about it. Things have changed now and he's constantly moaning about petrol prices, how much money he's lost on his expensive car he bought a couple of years ago etc etc. I sit here and smile and say "oh dear". I feel slightly smug but keep it hidden... I think
There is no issue so small that it can't be blown out of proportion
