Nixi could you not do some teaching on your instrument then?
lots of schools have visiting instrumental teachers that they either arrange through themselves or through a local music service.
The ones at DHs school choose their own days and hours. some just do a couple of hours a week. about £20/ hour.

Yes, Nixi, teachers charge the earth for instrumental lessons. Even if it took a bit of brushing up (and servicing that clarinet from the garage) it could be worth it.

DD has grade 6 (um, merit, I think) violin, grade 4 distinction sax and she takes her grade 4 piano in a week or so. She wants to go to music college so she needs minimum grade 8 distinction (preferably diploma, from what I've heard) violin and grade 6 piano. Then anything she gets for her sax is a bonus really. Apparently there is a shortage of strings players, so hopefully she'll get a place when the time comes. She's only 12, so time on her side yet.

I have taken gazillions of photos and had a nice bacon and cheese toastie. At least one of these counts as achieving something today!

dont want to dig in here, and prob not the right place, but hoping you can help me find the right words! I have to do two short presentations/discussions for this interview tomorrow morning. I have the first one licked and done and am happy with it. The second one however is a case of knowing mostly how I would do it but no matter how i try, just cant quite get the wording the way I want. Could really use a few thoughts, if you dont mind that is. if not that is ok as well and thank you in advance either way xx

    The question is :
    • What would I do if I faced reluctance from a team member to accept the direction that I was setting?
The role is for a Operations Manager/Team Leader

Munchki, if you want to PM me your initial thoughts or how you have worded it so far I'll happily give any suggestions/ thoughts I have about wording etc.
Not sure about throwing my own ideas on here as may well be different to yours but happy to look at your ideas and give some thoughts on how to express them.
    if that helps

Two main things in this question, to my mind - importance and timescale. Different situations will require a different approach. I guess they will be expecting to say you would try to talk them round, get their buy-in etc. But there are some situations where you just can't do that! Someone is breathing down your neck, you will lose a contract because of something that has gone before, etc. Some situations you have to say I'm sorry you feel that way. I'm afraid this is the way it has to be right now, but I'm happy to revisit later when its more appropriate.

Obviously mostly you would want to get people to come round to your viewpoint or at worst to find an acceptable compromise, but are they looking for evidence that you are prepared to take tough (and possibly unpopular) decisions if you have to?

Spose you would discusss with them why they are reluctant to accept your direction, see if they had any other ideas?

This is why I work for myself...no interviews :-)

Thank you, but that is half the problem, they are all trapped in my head, I can even almost speak them but for whatever reason I just cant get them clearly onto paper and this is the easy question lol!! I am not loolking for anyone to do it for me so to speak, just feel a bit flusterd, prob because so much is riding on tomorrow.

Munchki - just some initial thoughts:
I'd start by exploring the reason for the reluctance, perhaps it would identify a training need - could undertake some formal training/ informal coaching, peer mentoring etc. Provide motivational input. Consider whether the reluctance could be due to diversity issues that might need resolving by the company/ adapting processes or job role etc. If it's that they are just not willing to perform, might be necessary to go down disciplinary route but I would make clear that this is reserved purely as last resort.

Hope that helps for starters :) x
