Nixi could you not do some teaching on your instrument then?
lots of schools have visiting instrumental teachers that they either arrange through themselves or through a local music service.
The ones at DHs school choose their own days and hours. some just do a couple of hours a week. about £20/ hour.

It is sooo long since I have played properly that it would take me a while to get back up to scratch but it has crossed my mind. I also would like to teach basic music theory - starting with reading music etc. My Aunt had wanted to learn the keyboard for a long time but was scared about reading music then one day I explained it to her and from there she flew, even my OH the other day complained about not understanding music. I gave my way of learning it and he was shocked at how easy it is to learn and wondered why if it was that easy school hadn't been able to do it! But def. need to brush up first!! Thank you for thinking of me!

Yes, Nixi, teachers charge the earth for instrumental lessons. Even if it took a bit of brushing up (and servicing that clarinet from the garage) it could be worth it.

DD has grade 6 (um, merit, I think) violin, grade 4 distinction sax and she takes her grade 4 piano in a week or so. She wants to go to music college so she needs minimum grade 8 distinction (preferably diploma, from what I've heard) violin and grade 6 piano. Then anything she gets for her sax is a bonus really. Apparently there is a shortage of strings players, so hopefully she'll get a place when the time comes. She's only 12, so time on her side yet.

I have taken gazillions of photos and had a nice bacon and cheese toastie. At least one of these counts as achieving something today!

She has plenty of time, especially if she is keen to do it - half the battle is putting the time into practising and a good teacher!

I had a very technical teacher up until my Grade 6 and then I swapped to a new teacher who after a few weeks refused to teach me as he said I didn't practise enough  (was starting to work to Grade 8 which had already been applied for), so my A-level teacher started me with a basson teacher in our school (she could only play Clarinet up to grade 4 herself!) and she taught me the musicality and within something
like 6 weeks I took my grade 8. The examiner said 'I hope to see you doing your diploma' and I thought I had done so badly that I thought he was being sarcastic...afterall only a few weeks before a talented muscian had refused to teach me! ANd then I got a distinction  I still think the examiner got it wrong to this day lol! Then my whole life was turned upside down as my mom left my dad and I started looking after the house etc, missing school so after my A-leve exam I more or less stopped playing. I did really badly in my A-levels (was meant to get A/B in music but got a D:eek: .

Maybe some of my earnings (if ever I get any) will go towards my clarinet and we will see from there.......

    Sorry for the long post!!

Well ive printed and filled mostly the forms i need in but just need a bit of advice.
For the date when i started working for myself is that when i first sold an item, or listed, or just when i thought of doing it?
Secondly my business address is my home, will this affect anything ?
Next on the CF10 form (exception from class 2 contributions) question 11 states about my occupation when self employed, but it also says 'if you have more than one occupation state it', must i put my main job down or is this only related to been self employed?
What are your expected net earnings? No idea, ive not sold an item yet.
Then on question 15 if you work for one or more employers they want to know gross earnings, again is this for my current job position?, Thanks.

EM, think it was you that messaged me on facebook, having such a hectic week... Sorry for not replying, it seems to have disappeared off my wall so I'm popping on here to just say sorry!

Have got a huge pile of Ebay stuff, after seeing the comments on here about ebay might leave it a while, it's all quite random objects (although my CD rack thingy is among it, nobody wants it *sob* hehe, not really, was pretty experimental anyway!

Does anyone know when in the year a motorbike jacket might sell well? I'm assuming would go better in the (somewhat) warmer weather when people are getting out on bikes...

Been really interesting reading the responses to Munchki's question :)
I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick @ss.... and I'm all out of bubblegum.

Hi - yes it was me - glad things are ok with you (the message was a PM, not on your wall so that'll be why it's not there :)) no need to apologise - i just noticed we hadn't seen you around for a while and your gorgeous dog popped up in my friend's list so it prompted me to say hi :) Where i live we have a huge biking festival and that kicks off in April this year so i'm just guessing but i would probably start trying to sell it now - into March? People are starting to think about the spring/ summer and beginning to think about outdoorsy things, well i am anyway! Can't wait to get out there!
    Just £10,852.28p to go...

    :D

    Trust that little voice in your head that says "Wouldn't it be interesting if...";
    And then do it.

Munchki - what comes to mind for me is the Change Sequence: "Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing' Whenever any change is happening this the squence it follows....so whether it is a new manager, change of direction, change of roles etc your team would need time to adjust through each stage.....which is achieved by consulting, talking, listening, explaining etc etc

Morning all. Sorry Toots, went to bed. (D'you know it's really weird me typing that as when I was little my bro called me Toots! Did it up till I was about 16 actually when I told him not to call me that!) If it's about your tortoiseshell, it's going up today come hell or high water. Was hoping for a bright day for photos and boot sale, but it's hissing down rain here.

Hi 2cats! Lol @ the Toots thing, I used to get that was I was little to, hence the username, and my cousin continued to use it until his far too early death last year. I think that's why it's in my mind nowadays, I miss him :(

Anyhoo, I'm really delighted to hear the tortoiseshell will soon be available :D but it wasn't actually that I was thinking about - will send you a pm now.

I just listed two of my vintage coats, can anyone tell me why I got a warning message when I uploaded using turbolister saying 'paypal may delay the settlement of funds to ensure smooth transactions' ... ??

PMd you back, Toots. Yay! Found my box of watercolours (and a bunch of gouache and a couple of tubes of acrylic for good measure!) so I'm cooking with gas. Not really settled to anything today. What a waste of a day :( Or I suppose I could look on it as a rest and recharge day....

Have been doing more crochet flowers though - they are strangely addictive. There is a fab shop on Folksy here http://www.folksy.com/shops/VictoriaJackman
and I seriously love the scarf on page 3 which is £100, so that's what I'm aspiring to at the moment! Maybe if I practice lots of flowers I'll be able to make it someday!
  • My nearly 18 year old son has been hankering after a motorbike for a couple of years now. He started working about 4 weeks ago, so now has his own money and therefore not much I can do to stop him! He's aiming to everything up and running for end of April, having carefully thought through weather etc, so if his amateur beginnings are anything to go by, I reckon March would be a good time for listing.
