I normally 'purchase' the cards then wander off into a new tab lol.

Okay Ive just noticed that ive quoted rather than edited!

Go to direct.gov.uk for the tax credits calculator. Will give you a rough idea of what you'll get. TBH the advisor who told you that should get a smack on the wrists because thats not alway strictly true, always lots of different fundamentals to take into account i.e. disability elements, previous overpayments. Tax credits are worked out very complicatedly (is that even a word)

EM - this might sound dodgy but it depends on what you need to do in it!!:eek::eek:
    both should be do-able though

MM I am sooo intrigued with allsorts of thoughts going round my head! Anyway good luck with it.
Victoria plum if you or dh can work at least 16 hours then you should get quite a lot of tax credits esp with young baby.
I am sure when DS was little we got tax credits when dh went self employed.. his business never took off and eventually he got a job. but sure we got tax cedits because he was working even though self employed. not 100% sure on that though as it was quite a changeable time for us and what we got when is a bit blurred.

Ive been told by a friend it would have to be 16 hours no more no less...wonder if we both had 2 16 hour jobs would we be better off than him working ft and me not working at all? I find it confusing. Does registered ebay seller count as s/e I wonder? We fall into the bracket where we are slightly above the lower limit so we don't earn enough to have a lavish lifestyle but also don't get WTC. We get CTC obviously but I assume that would stop if oh gets made redundant? Sorry I know this isnt the right thread for these kind of issues, was really wanting to let you all know that the redundancy threat should be spurring me into action rather than launch a discussion about benefits etc...sorry folks but thanks for the advice anyway

I meant to write to mambury.....

Hey, is not Doncasters is it? Thanks for your thoughts re entitled to, I shall have to try that, when I rang tax credit helpline a while back re me working a few hours they told me we'd be better off if my oh only worked pt as they would make money up? Sounds too good to be true though!

no different company... its bizarre but we would be better off with me SE earning nothing than if OH was on JSA.... wierd..... but hey if theres more money coming in then I can't complain....

EM - how about a googly eye costume... got it... peacock!!! Seriously.... they don't sound like easy costumes to make..... Good luck!!

You will still get CTC regardless of who is or isn't working. There is an upper limit on WTC, can't quite remember what it is, possibly around teh £17k mark for a couple. You would need to work 16 hours to get help with childcare etc but its dependant on income to what you'll get. I deal with the online side of taxes but did do TC for a while so could probably give some more help if you needed. Of course it is only advice though and not set in stone.

Hahaha it's not part of the 'making babies plan' don't worry! Oh no, the images - sorry! :rotfl:
It's for a 70s party, i've persuaded OH to go as 'Jim'll fix it' blokey (not that i particularly like him) - he wants to go as normal disco people but i'd like to go as something a bit different - or a lot different!
    Just £10,852.28p to go...

    :D

    Trust that little voice in your head that says "Wouldn't it be interesting if...";
    And then do it.

I am registed Se with HMRC as I sell on ebay and I will have my own website.... if you are working for yourself to earn money no matter what you are doing reg with HMRC as SE then you can claim CTC and WTC.... OH might/might not be able to claim JSA but you will probably be better off without it..... You can then both work at ebay together (same account though) to earn more money! I think (don;t quoteme though) your CTC/WTC claim is based on the previous year however if you circumstances change such as redundancy they look at it differently.... but if you are SE and think you will earn £2000 in year A and then you earn £12,000 in year B your CTC and WTC are based on year A, not B.....

This did happen to us when OH was SE a few years ago.... I managed to put a few quid away for when the car finally dies.....
