I'm not my hubby has been admitted to hospital today with his MS, I can't visit as got pneumonia, worried sick about him without watching that.

Sorry to hear that Nat. Has it just been diagnosed or is it a long suffering illness. Must be awful when you are too ill to look after him. My thought are with you.

  • Tiggrae, I payed my loan off in full in December 2002 after having the loan for 17 months. I only ever wanted to claim back the PPI that I was conned out of as it was a single premium policy that only covered me for 5 years, but was pushed down the other route once I went to the solicitor.

Pinknico, I have read that bit but I have also read the rest which shows that No win No fee is not the case for many reasons. They even state that you are liable to pay a 100% success fee if they are unable to claim some or all of it back from the defendants. This is on top of their sky high hourly rates. The thing that topped it off was they were willing to proceed with my case without insurance in place to protect me if I lose even though it is a legal requirement to have. I strongly urge anyone who is thinking of going with them to read all the paperwork or go to Citizens Advice who told me not to sign it.

I think I should inform Black Knight & Stokes that I will not be signing the CFA and ask for my paperwork back.

I will hopefully get the response from Watsons that I owe nothing and my contract is cancelled and proceed on my own. Any help that you can all give me in persuing First Plus for the PPI would be much appreciated.

Just been reading this thread here about another claims company

    http://www.scam.com/showthread.php?t=122675

Only got to page 10 and have to finish another day but it is really interesting.
  • Spoke with the new solicitor yesterday. She actually seems to know what she is talking about. She said she worked with Watsons last year for 4 months and it was a mess, so she set up her own firm to take on consumer cases like these. When I had received the info in the post about her company (Stokes & Co) I panicked because it did seem that they were saying that I would have to pay all costs. After speaking to her thoughshe explained that by law they are required to send that info through but then explained the CFA and that the only circumstances I would be required to pay anything would be if a broke out of the contract or I went against my obligations in the contract ie if they said an offer given to me was the best I was going to get, so take it, then I decided I wanted to push further I would be liable for the costs. She was really helpful though and has actually answered my calls a few times already, that alone in my book is a winner!!!!!

Where you say you panicked because it did seem that they were saying that you would have to pay costs, and she said it was only if you broke the contract.... this could mean that 10 years down the line you could still be waiting. What they seem to be doing is taking on all these cases again and waiting with baited breathe for another case in court to win and then bingo. If you can take that risk then fair enough but just be careful what you are signing for. It "may" never happen. Not saying it won't but there is a chance. Can you ask them to state in writing what your chances are of winning??

If all you want back is the PPI millwallpaul and you are definately allowed to pull out without any costs (and you have to be 100% sure and have it in writing!!) then you could try to make the insurer responsible and FOS are accepting complaints against them. I know yours was Bespoke (in GIB) but I feel the complaint may be too difficult for them now as this was taken in 2000 and paid back in 2002 so most probably they will say they have nothing. If you have the insurer's details then you could try this way. Bespoke are a law unto themselves.

Seems that the address of the solicitors and the address of the claims firm PPI claims 4 u (BK) are both registered at the same address so don't know if that is a plus for you here or a minus TBH.
