Plasma screen burn was a legacy of earlier generation screens.
Sure if you're going to leave a static picture on it day in day out (ie an airport arrivals board etc), then you're going to have a problem....but I'd imagine that not too many on here have a runway in their garden?
Re Fujitsu Siemens (check the spelling) being 'crappy'....horlicks!! I have it front of me right now & the picture is perfect. If you'd researched this a little more than just spouting off, you'd have found out that there are ZERO write ups (check the spelling) for the model I'm posting about - because it's only just been released. It's the latest generation. It might use a Samsung panel, but so what? Plenty of happy Samsung owners on the AV forums.
So let's summarise...
Resolution is not crap.
Screen burn is not an issue.
There are no reviews so it hasn't had a bad 'right up'
Fujitsu-Siemens are a premium brand (ie miles away from the likes of Tevion, Orion blah blah)
Don't know why I bother.
PS: Unless you want to use your TV with a PC/Xbox....for general TV viewing a Plasma picture will mop the floor vs LCD (it's all to do with the blacks)
How sad for a poster who thinks his thread is being devalued to hit back pointing out a one letter spelling mistake.
No reviews??
You only have to search the AV forums for Fujitsu-Siemens and you get
"Fujitsu-Siemens are a very very different company to Fujitsu-General (Plasmavision) as they are very much IT based. Being a computer based part of the huge Fujitsu group doesn't automatically make them a good plasma maker. They do not share any of our facilites or design/manufacturing at all, in fact they are a completely separate company despite using the Fujitsu group name.. The unit they sell frankly is a thorn in our side as people think they are from the same company, you get exactly what you pay for in this game. It will work obviously but should be compared with other low budget makes (remember Tiny plasmas??) and not any premium company's product like the better Pioneer's, Panasonic or Fujitsu Plasmavision. I'll say no more on the subject....."
""you get exactly what you pay for" meant exactly that I'm afraid, I have seen the screens several times and done side by side demo's with them to hundreds of people in the trade abroad. The difference is quite obvious between these screens and the "premium" Pioneer, Panasonic and Fujitsu Plasmavision. At the current knock down price it is a genuine bargain but the price drop has more to do with having to shift the stocks due to RoHS and WEEE issues rather than doing the customer a favour I'd bet..... They should be aimed at Commercial business rather than domestic IMHO as that is what IT companies like Fujitsu Siemens do best...... Good luck to anyone that buys one, just don't expect comparable levels of perfomance or service as Fujitsu Plasmavision give as I said earlier they are nothing at all to do with us. They really are completely separate companies."
Personally I have just purchased had delivered a 42" Panasonic Viera plasma to replace my Samsung 32" LCD TV and TBH the Samsung does have a much better picture.0 -
Fujitsu-Siemens, Samsung, whatever; they all use each others parts bins. But the big brands tend not to want to cheapen their image by using duff gear.
Plasma has a higher contrast because each individual pixel is independently illuminated by that pixel's plasma (excited gas). When the Pixel is off, it is as black as the screen. When it is on it is as bright as the plasma is.
LCD uses one or more fluorescent tubes to light the entire panel from the rear. Mini versions of those tubes of which you are familiar, shine through the liquid crystals. When off, it is only as dark as the crystal can be with the light still trying to shine through. When on, the light is diffused via filters and the crystal itself where it picks up the colour. This tends to make it less brilliant than plasma.
Plasma tends to be quicker in response (so far) and much higher contrast. But it gradually loses brilliance over time, but you are talking many years for the branded stuff.
LCD theoretically lasts longer excluding the fluorescent tubes which tend to dim with age over a long time much in the same way as plasma.
LCD is harder to make in bigger sizes, hence they are only just starting to take over as technology catches up with costs.
LCD is getting faster and the contrast possible has reached the levels acceptable to most, the levels plasma can acheive are not really necessary unless you go over 40". But there is still a premium (or again, so they tell us).
There was also a trade off with LCD to do with speed versus longevity. Time cures all.
Screen size is important too. The bigger it gets the more resolution you need, or the pixels get just too big and everything looks blurred / out of focus. But hold on, if you increase the res, you need to be able to send data for those extra pixels to display. Or else they end up repeating the data of the neighbouring pixel. A 1024x768 display needs 4 times the pixel data of a typical TV signal. If you don't increase the data, the deficiencies in the quality of the video being viewed are seen (remember the apparent quality of those tiny 3 inch screen TVs?), just like enlarging a photograph. This is why DVDs look better the SKY or terrestrial. So, in comes HDTV. Not because it is a luxury, but because you need it if they are going to be able to sell you displays bigger than 42" for you to watch TV and not just DVDs.
I am sure this is all correct in simple terms, which is how I understand things!! I am sure you guys will correct me if I am wrong. Many people have knowledge, only the wise know how to apply it. You must try to soar like an eagle, even when surrounded by turkies. (.Y.)0 -
Does it come with a stand?0

It wasn't one spelling mistake it was two...but I was having a moment - sorry.
Re the extract from AVForums...that's from a guy who sells Fujitsu (General) Plasmas......what would you expect him to say?!!! Also he hasn't seen this particular model - he was talking in general but to underline he *sells* Fujitsus General plasmas...! But even with that in mind, he said this about the model I'm recommending...
"At the current knock down price it is a genuine bargain but the price drop has more to do with having to shift the stocks due to RoHS and WEEE issues rather than doing the customer a favour I'd bet"
Like I care why it's been knocked down (Rohs & WEEE are to do with meeting certain conditions for disposal of hazarous waste)
Yes it comes with a stand, but if you want to hang it on the wall, here's a bracket for £11.99...

Of course a lot of people have big screens for the same reason that a lot of people drive 4x4s... none at all except vanity and ignorance.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -
Thanks Hank the stand clinches it forget all the other stuff!
My god has no one got any work to do!0 -
Woah... this is a good spec plasma AND it comes with a two year collect and return warranty... what more could I possibly want?!?!
I'm literally ALMOST at the point of buying this TV.
Except there's one worry which i have.... burn in! I've heard too many horror stories for my liking...eg. after having watched a sports event the words 'SKY SPORTS' permanently etched into the screen... etc
Many high-end plasmas have several anti burn-in features, e.g. some pannys have 'wobbling' which periodically alter the position of the screen by a few pixels...or white bar scrolling etc in order to prevent a phosphor from staying the same colour for too long, thus preventing long-term burn-in.
So...could anyone who has this set (HankMcSpank or other?) possibly inform as to whether there are any such anti burn-in features, or screensavers etc?
I've also heard that if a plasma is allowed to run in on low contrast/brightness settings for around 200 hours then that also reduces the possibility of screen burn-in?
OR...am I just unnecessarily worrying myself?
Thanks to OP for this great find.

it's a short stand for the TV to sit on a cabinet as in this picture....
Note: that particular plasma in the picture is the model before, but the stand is the same on this one we're talking about, here's my TV...
PS if there are any AVForums members reading this, could you let those interested parties on this thread http://www.avforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=360279&page=9 know that I've been temporarily banned (username is peskywinnets - a short & stupid story!!) until 27 July! So no further comments from me on there until then - I asked the mods to temporarily lift it so I could post my comments & they did once (for my mini review with pics) but they won't again.0 -
it looks great thanks,0
